Took my truck in for its 30k and Toyota won't let me drive it. Said replacement parts are in extreme high demand and could take weeks before they can even fix it... driving a RAV4 hybrid with much better lowend torque performance though so it's all good for now.

Your dealer cannot confiscate your property. Period. You allowed them to take possession in exchange for a loaner. I don't see a problem here, haha.

There is also a mega thread for this recall you could've reviewed about everything.

They absolutely will not allow me to drive it. That's pretty close to a confiscation.

It's your truck. You are free to drive it off. What are they going to do, call the law and have you cuffed and stuffed ?

Didn't know congress passed that "No driving Tacomas with weeping differentials" bill last week lol.
Dude, you own it. Do a bit of research.

What's the difference here? The later actually showed signs of leaking, but not on recall...
And the other, not on recall, is deemed not road worthy?
I've seen this lately with the diff issue. Some are told they can't drive and others told it's fine to drive. Why is it not treated the same with all? Dealer/Customer/Vehicle ??

Yes this is really turning into a big mess. Toyota should get a handle on this whatever it takes

Eh, Toyota has A LOT on their plate. Takata, Diffs, Seatbelts, Frames, and a few more.
The diffs are estimated at 225,000, right?
The rusted frame inspection is estimated at 1.5 million, with an estimated 200,000+ replacements.
That's a lot going on. Ive had my fair share of frustrations with Toyota over my truck but have been taken care of well. Be patient and express your concerns with Corporate Customer Service. They document everything.
Good luck All. I'm not part of the Diff Recall but I know what it's like not having your vehicle for a long period of time.

it all depends on which dealer you visit - zero consistency with this issue

Whats insane is that every dealership should have parts on the shelf waiting to go for this recall:mad:. Why is it taking months for Toyota to get seals out, and why are they waiting to send them until there is a truck parked that they have to provide a loaner for. This recall should take 4 hrs from the first time the vehicle is dropped off. At the end of the campaign, any parts left at dealers could be returned to a warehouse. certainly keeping the extra inventory in stock at dealers would be cheaper than paying months of a loaner vehicle.

No dealers keep an inventory of parts...not car dealers, motorcycle dealers, bicycle dealers, none...those days are long gone! (I sure miss being able to walk into some place and actually get what I need!) And they wonder why we order everything online!

Yeah, I'm sure that's a really great idea. I've noticed the loss in power already, you're proposing I bitch a fit, take my truck while on recall and hope I don't get involved in an accident while they wait for the parts to come in? Haha. What would my legal recourse be at that point? Man you guys really are butthurt about this quality control.

Why are you assuming I didn't read that? I'm just letting people know that I was affected too. The mega thread flys off the rails with memes for 5 pages at a time.

Mine was on the recall list, but when I received world of it via the first class mail I immediately checked the diff my self and really didn't see any weeping. If it was showing signs, it must have been minor or in a spot that's easier to spot on a lift vs the ground.

Update: Almost 3 weeks in. I've put almost 2000 miles on this damn rental due to road trips I had planned. Where are my parts, where's my fixed truck?
