Factory TRD Offroad skids for me. They work good for my usage and don't weigh a ton.

Mobtown Off-Road steel skids powdrecoated (spray painted over now too) on my trail limo, and they get abused a looooooot. But I am running on the stock suspension, only 5100 at front just to level the truck after all the armour.

Steel. I thought of aluminum but not a good idea to me. She might be nice too save weight but they don't like to slide over rocks as well. Aluminum is much softer so it may tend to gouge and not just scrape.

I may have slight overkill though. Mobtown 3/16 steel front, trans, tcase powder coated
Pelfreybilt gas tank skid. Think it's 1/8th thick but not sure spray painted it myself. Thinking maybe powder coat as it's more durable.

RCI sliders with kick out and top plate. Sprayed with bed liner.
    Brave man
Bro ours took a hell of abuse on Minden.
    Or at least mine did

Thanks for the info, sounds like everyone's running something a little different. The weight's a bit of a concern considering the little 3.5 in the 3rd gen but the price of aluminum + powder coat is pricey for something that's going to get smacked around under your truck lol... tough one

@SRC Jess where you at on these

Aluminum is not recommended if you do some rock climbing. That question was raised during Mobtown GB & general opinion was to get steel skids for moderate and heavy off-roading.

Depends on your use. If you want it there in case go aluminum. If your going to use them steel.

Also depending on your use you may want heavier skids. For instance my ifs skid may be upgraded to above 3/16 (think it's 1/4 from BAMF) as mine are all dented and bent.

For paint. They are going to get scratched depending on your use. I got mine painted as it's easier to touch up apparently compared to powder coat. I just spray bomb mine now.

@16yota I'm with these guys on the skids - I'll be going steel for the skids for sure. The front bumper is a great place to save some weight and go aluminum so that's what I did.

After doing VMUTS this past weekend and breaking a gas line in the middle of no where without cell reception, I'll be pumping the breaks a little until I get full skids on the truck lol.

It was around the northwest side of Kearney lake on an unmarked trail. We were hoping it would lead to the other side of the lake for a camp site but it was going the wrong direction after a little bit. Before I could find a spot to turn around the truck died and we could smell gas. My best guess is a branch came up and hit the little plastic quick connect fitting that goes from the steel line to the soft lines off the tank. I was able to fix it with some rubber fuel hose and zip ties I had in my tool box but shit it was a moment of panic that's for sure. If I didn't have that rubber fuel line I would have been SOL.

But yeah VMUTS was awesome, besides the weather we experienced. We ended up camping on Cahill Lake in a beautiful spot. Also, the VMUTS trail map difficulty ratings is not very accurate lol....
