This whole scenario is not unlike the Dakota Access Pipeline debacle and intruding on someones land. The similarities are uncanny.

So you all want to start a witch hunt and castrate the guy? Slash his tires? The fuck is the point of that? He needs to be educated. The guy taking the pics could have got his info but it looks like he wanted internet fame instead.

I hope the guy that took the pics did get his info and turn him in, then shared the pic so others can see what not to do. I don't care if we find out who is. I just hope he gets punished for breaking the law and that people see this and learn that it is a fucking stupid thing to do.

Since nobody has mentioned it yet, I'll just throw in that the county Sheriff already wants to close this trail because of 'safety and rescue/recovery cost' reasons.

I'll also add to what Gramps said as far as where some of these roads came from, in that many are or were logging roads or fire routes/breaks from forestry management. Some are also old rail line routes, in addition to wagon/stagecoach routes.

I'm not sure if you're trolling or being pedantic or what, but this is really not that hard. "Off road" is a generic term that doesn't have a consistent meaning. A better term would be "four wheeling", but then ATVs used to be called four-wheelers... Pretty much anything that has a designation (a name, a trail/route/road number, etc.) is considered a 'road' - or trail, or designated route. For the most part, there is nowhere other than private land or certain areas (such as an 'off-road park' or designated open travel area like some dunes) where you can travel off the established trail/road/route except in certain cases (for instance where allowed to drive up to 100' off the road to camp aka dispersed camping). In this context, 'off-road' means driving across an open field or an unofficial bypass to an obstacle or anything else that isn't the established way.

The signage and markings are pretty standard and should be easily recognizable if you've ever been on any federal or even some state lands. There's one for motorized bikes (two wheel, single track), one for atv/ohvs (four wheels, two track, less than 50" in width), and one for 'high clearance 4x4' (the jeep, meaning 4 wheels, two track, greater than 50" in width). There is also sometimes a symbol like a car or truck that is NOT the jeep, which means clearance and 4x4 isn't required (or recommended at any rate). I suggest you start here http://www.staythetrail.org/content.aspx?page_id=22&club_id=266593&module_id=228445 to get an overview, then if you really want the damn details there's a 680 page manual for FS signage at https://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/stelprd3810021.pdf You should also look at a MVUM (motor vehicle use map) which you can find the generic FAQ for at https://www.fs.fed.us/visit/maps/mvum-faq and then pick one as an example ( https://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/stelprd3838524.pdf ) and just read ALL the text on it.

Three sides, his/hers, theirs and the truth.

But yea, come one guys he may (MAY) be a dicklesstwat but lets let the authorities take care of punishment, and maybe ease up on the keyboard warrioring. No need to go round on a man hunt slashing tires and busting lights. We do that kinda crap and we're aggressive animals and no better than he was. He'll get his, rest assured, but that's no reason to throw yourselves into the line of getting your own.

    OI!

    Peace people.

Ever get stuck in traffic next to a short bus? He's basically saying that's us. He might not be wrong.

Seems like there's a lack of understanding or respect for the public lands we have access to here in Colorado. Regardless of why the roads are there, they're now controlled by the Forest Service, for the use by multiple different user groups, for their respective enjoyment. We only have a limited number left, and have to balance our enjoyment with that of other user groups.

Black Bear Pass has been on the chopping block for years because of it's dangerous nature and accidents that occur on it regularly, this won't help. The eyesore caused by this one individual will be visible for years, and not only to us, but by those on bikes, horses, foot, or otherwise. Many of which already have a negative view towards our hobby.

BBP is one of the most popular and most beautiful roads in the state, and things like this will help it get permanently closed even sooner.

Maybe I just put that in the profile? It might not be a prerunner at all. Sorry, I could tear up just as much delicate nature as anyone with 4wd if I chose, wouldn't even need a locker. I don't choose to because I have respect for access to cool nature spots and consideration for others having a chance to enjoy same shit without fucking up future access.
