honestly had a hard time getting them to budge at all.

Only reason they ended up budging was cause I told them I was going to another dealer and they asked what they'd need to do to have me sign. I named my price which truthfully was reasonable. Basically just got my tonneau, block heater, tub mats, bed mat, and spare tire lock for free.

They said I paid for them and took it off MSRP but whatever I don't care where it came off.
$450 a month, 27k down. Taxes in was $50,800 no trade in (Canada)

Dealers get volume incentive checks, many of us know that.

So if they hit thier #'s for the month and all tacoma sales togehter are a break even, 0 profit per the deal on EVERY tsaco sold for the month. They made profit of incentive check /#tacos sold per taco.

Next is the Finance portion, they get my truck financed at say 4% per my contract, I sign and drive home pleaased as punch cause they made squat on my deal. Of course then they sell the contract to BoA or Credit Union are Us for 1.5 points. That means they just made 1.5% of the interest on my sale for getting me to sign the contract. That is $600 on a 40K truck.

Maybe while I am in Finance they sell me GAP, extended warranty, prepaid maintenance, running boards..... each adds more profit.

Was there a trade? did they give you KBB? can they possish it up and gain 20% or more on it's sale?

Why push a deal even at a loss? Cause they know it is most definately NOT a loss after all profit lines are accounted for.

when you account for exchange rate its actually pretty close in price. Maybe a little more since we're taxed a bit more. But otherwise its similar.
Figure what's 50k canadian in US when at the time our dollar was weak as fuck. When I bought canadian dollar was trading at 73cents USD.
50k is about 39kUSD now at about 80cents USD, so figured even less at the time. Not too far off from what people in the US are paying for a TRD offroad.

I haggled over the price on mine on a Friday night while a couple was trying to buy one at the same time. I walked and they called me back the next day. After a little more negotiating I paid $36,400 total, sticker was $39, 281. Their F&I guy showed me the paper work on the other guys deal from the night before, he paid right at $1000 back of msrp. I think it helped that I purchased from them before and we were buying a Rav4 also.

My time like yours is worth something. I don't have time to play a game, I was in and out with my new truck in about an hour. Professionally my time is worth $250.00 an hour every thing was handled by phone
except my physically going in to pick up the keys and getting a "walk around " from my salesman. There CSI is good, I am a happy repeat Toyota customer.

Sometimes it's as simple as lose $x amount right now, or lose even more $ later. If a $40k car has been in stock 90 days I'm paying a flooring allowance on it everyday, if someone offers me a net $300 loss now I'd take it because if it's sits around another 90 days I'll spend more than $300 just letting it sit there plus end up possibly taking an even bigger loser later.

Also sales goals have to keep the factory happy, if they want you to sell 300 cars a month you do what it takes to get there.

Adding customers to the pipeline, I might lose $ on the deal but gain a service customer and referrals later.

Used cars that have been in stock 60 days, I might own it for $15k with a $14k auction value, I always send cars to auction at 70 days in stock so if it's 65 days in stock and someone offers me $14,500 I'd lose $500 and take the deal rather than lose $1k and send it to auction 5 days from now.

It's also a strategy for internet departments to try and make it up on the backend. If I decide to blowout new civics sedans for $800 below invoice I'm losing about $400 per car, if I sell 10 of those I'm losing $4,000... but 3 of those people might have a tradein I'll make cash on, a couple of them might buy a warranty and alarm, some I might be able to switch to a hatchback and charge more etc... but out of those 10 on average 4 of those people will buy NOTHING extra with no tradein, I literally lose money on those 4 people even if I made it up on the other 6.

I think he paid I think a lot now that I have time to do so. I also think if he paid that little he had a trade or put 10k down. If not like another poster stated, I would buy 10 and sell 10. Kinda like my 2nd gen
