Mine sits on the side of the house. Most of the time it's just in the way of whatever I want to lay in the bed.

So in the end it's not a loss? I was attempting to pry @Jaque8 because he said dealerships sell at a loss all the time. It might appear as a loss to the less informed but it's not. For the very reasons you both went on to tell me.

It's no different then why people lie about their salaries. More money = bigger hero. Opposite when you are spending money. Less money = bigger hero.

Beside who doesn't want to sound cool to all their internet friends that we will never meet face to face?

When I bought my truck the dealership actually gave me money and sent me on an all inclusive vacation to a sandels resort!!! Not bragging just saying. And this is on the Internet so it must be true. That's just science.

Well no offense to TC_Mio he speaks some lingo but doesn' actually work in the business (if he does he's low level) either way doesn't really know what he's talking about. There's no such thing as "incentive checks" especially in the Toyota world, he might be thinking of stair-step programs but those are certainly not on the Tacoma, or Toyota in general. That would be GM, Ford, Nissan and Hyundai. You won't see stair step programs on Subaru, Toyota, BMW, Audi, Honda. So no, if a dealer sells X amount of tacomas at a loss it'll only be offset with backend product sales and tradeins, there is no "incentive checks" lol.

Read my comment I already gave several examples of when dealers sell at a straight loss. Here's another bonus one: every single car we sell to rental car companies is a big loser, no hidden cash, no "incentive checks" just a big fat loser, which is why only a fraction of dealers rely on rental fleet sales to hit objectives. I've run fleet departments and I gave up on rental cars long ago, if you're relying on rental sales you have a weak fleet dept and need to earn new accounts.

    So in summary.....

FACT #1: YES, dealerships sell cars at a loss ALL THE TIME. A real true loss, below invoice, below holdback, below dealer cash etc... LOSS.

FACT #2: There's about $500 holdback (google it yourself) on a Tacoma (varies on trim) and a couple hundred more in FR but that pays for flooring allowance so its not really profit at all but whatever I'll even give you that. So net net cost on a Tacoma is $500-$700 below invoice, if you pay less than that THE DEALERSHIP LOST MONEY SELLING YOU THE TRUCK. No tricks about it any $ below $800 back on invoice on a Tacoma is straight loss no matter how you dice it.

Sure SOME people end up buying backend to bring their deals back into the green, but we sell cars all the time to people that don't and that's ok, happens everyday.

To clear up another misconception TRUE LOSS is not standardized relative to invoice, because of dealer cash, holdback, trunk money etc it varies wildly by brand and model.

If I lease a Honda Accord to someone for $2k below invoice I'm actually making a little money (right now at least). If I sell a civic to someone for $2k below invoice I'm losing about $1,600 straight loss (which is why you can buy accords for $2k back of of invoice but not civics). How about a BMW X5?? last year when the 2017s came out I had about $5k below invoice on a $60k X5 before I was actually losing $, on a more expensive $90k M3 I only had about $1,500 below invoice before the same was true.

I'm pretty much in the exact boat as you. When I bought my truck January 2nd, 2016 I had done a ton of homework on what I wanted to buy. After settling on the third gen, getting the exact truck I wanted was more important than a 1-2k drawn out negotiation. Paid $42k out the door for my fully loaded trd off-road.

I learned quite a few things in buying my car that in the long run will probably save me more than I lost. To spare all the gritty details, I'm ultimately young and somewhat successful just coming out of college. The dealership knew I drove 500 miles to get the truck with my little brother, and essentially denied me purchasing the truck due to my first time buyer status. Dozens of phone calls later and a generous family member allowed me to get the truck that weekend. Ended up having to consign at the dealer and refinanced after by myself. Spent 8 days driving the west coast of california with my little brother after that, had an amazing time covering ~1600 miles.

At first I was a little bitter after seeing what some people paid on here for my exact truck, but it's all good! I work hard for my money, and every time I look at my truck I am reminded of that. Did I get taken advantage of? Definitely. Will I ever put myself in the position of "needing" to buy something from someone again? Nope.

I should add that my college degree is not in business, clearly.

As long as u learned from it. It's the best way. U will always remember. And your little brother will remember as well. And you won't let him forget it. That's what big Brothers are for. And good luck with your truck. Now go out and have fun. It will last a long long time.

For me even at the price I paid it made more sense to buy new. I was looking at trucks 1-3yrs old for only a couple thousand less than my new truck.....and they have tax/licensing too. Ended up with a better interest rate on the new truck as well, 2.6% I believe. There is always some one that will pay less. If your okay with the price you paid who really gives a shit if its not affecting you negatively financially.

I got my 2016 OR 4x4 with premium and tech, Jbl, Moonroof, all season mats, bed cover 2 weeks before 2017's hit the lot. I didn't order it, it was on the lot with 3XX miles. $35k

No idea if good or not, but now I'm curious.
