Funny I did the same exact thing and was under water by 7k so instead of a $40k truck it was $47k.

I vote to trade up, and get a quicksand. I regeret not getting quicksand, but still love my white DC TRD OR 4x4 and going wheeling this weekend with it.

    Gluck

Do it! I think the mpg will be negligible. How you drive it is as much a factor as 4x4 vs 4x2.

As for color... white will be just as hard to keep clean as the MGM.

Toyota should stop making the 4x2 and this wouldn't happen!

You can get any color as long as it's silver!

    Just my advice, or .02.
I'm not going to read this whole thread so I'm sure this has been said. Gas milage does not sound like your biggest issue. So get the 4x4. It's what you want and need to be happy .

I know it's my driving habits but the best I've done on a tank is 21.4mpg.
But that's freaking great since my JKU gets 13-14 lol

dipped grille black and caliraised 30inch led bar behind grille more to come I hope
I was in the same boat as you I had a 2017 off road 4x2 loved the truck but 4x4 in bbp wasn't available at my time of purchase so got the 4x2 with tech package and liked the 2in1 stock fog lights it had, so after I diped my grill black (which looked good) noticed I scratched the crap out of the grill when I took off the inserts lol so 1 hour after paint dried noticed my dealer had same truck all same options in bbp and 4x4 .......so long story short and 2 hours of talks ending up buying the 4x4 ... only made 3 payments on the 4x2 doh.. hope I got good deal but you know how dealers are was offered 26k at first for my old truck when payed 32k but owed 37k to the bank ..damn 10k loss hurts ..but ending with them giving my 29k for old truck with 5k more down and only $23 more dollars month finance for the 4x4 which was 35k list. think ending up at 40k with what bank gets...hope I didn't get hosed

Reminds me of a time I bought a 2WD 2006 Tundra... Loved the truck but damn I can't tell you how many times I wished it was 4WD. You can probably find what you're looking for with guys selling their trucks in the 3rd Gen Tacomas For Sale thread if you are patient and don't mind traveling a bit to get it. I think if I was trying to minimize the loss of having to trade/sell in your 2WD I'd go that route. Best thing about ordering brand new is you can order from the factory and get exactly what you want, which is what I did. Sometimes I wish I went with the OR instead of the Sport for the locking diff but I'm happy with my Sport.

I was in the same boat back a few years ago. I had bought a 14 prerunner in black. year later traded in for a 15 access cab 4x4 TRD OR in MGM. do it, life is short

White is by far the easiest to hide scratches when the truck is cleaned and buffed. Bought my 16 trd sport in white originally wanted silver but they weren't getting any MTs in silver for months. I like the quicksand but I stuck with white. No regrets what so ever going 4x4. I love my taco. Only regret is not getting an OR but then again I can always put in lockers later....lol
