I bought my 2015 Tacoma 09/16. When I purchase vehicle it only had 3k miles on it. Everything was still factory. Since the purchase I put on only 10k miles on it. Last month I noticed at freeway speeds that wheel started shaking when I broke. I took it to dealer and they measured pads and rotors and everything is fine and should have a ton a life left in them. I don't drive a long distance at all. Barely on freeway. I'm kind of left scratching my head as to what caused the warp in the rotors.

So my question is should I have factory rotors turned and put back current factory pads on? Or if I turn rotors I should just replace pads. Any insight would help. Thanks.

What makes you think it's the rotors?

Replace pads and rotors. Lateral runout of the front rotors is caused by a few different things. Excessive heavy braking, pad slapping and even overtorqued lug nuts. You can have the rotors machined but I rarely machine the rotors on my truck. Before new rotors are installed sand down the hub mating surface removing all surface rust and corrosion. Clean shipping oil off new rotors with hot soapy water. Do not use brake cleaner. Lube the slide pins and backs of the new pads.

The rotors don't really warp. The vibration comes from the pad material transferring unevenly to the rotor. I would replace the pads if they are glazed, cracked, or have chunks missing. Otherwise I'd reuse.

Had a similar problem. I also felt a pulsing type braking at lower speeds. Replaced my rotors, and my breaking vibration is gone. Didn't touch the pads.

The vibration is caused by different variations in the thickness of the rotor. The only way to measure this is with a dial indicator.

Shaking only occurs when I brake at speeds above 50.

Rotors. Just go ahead and do a full front brake job. All you need is 2 screwdrivers and a 17mm wrench.

I've seen cars with 5k miles and have vibration issues. Dude drove his car like a bat out of hell. It's possible somebody overtorqued the living shit out of your lug nuts and that's what caused the problem.

As it gets worse you'll notice when you brake at low speeds its a bit of a pulse. Almost like your pressing and releasing the brake over and over again.

Rotate the tires and see if anything changes. I've been through this before. Thought it was brakes and rotors...thought maybe tires were out of balance...then learned I had a bent rim, made the truck shake like crazy, especially during braking.

Unless you race at high speeds or live in the mountains and drive downhill all the way to work, you have not warped your rotors. Warping rotors takes a tremendous amount of heat. The rotors themselves would have to start glowing for them to be hot enough to warp.

Normally what happens is brakes get heated from use and then once you come to a complete stop part of the brake pad material will burn onto the rotor. Over time it causes an uneven braking surface and shaking while braking. A vast majority of the time this is due to driving habits (ie aggressive accelleration and braking). Sometimes seized brakes can cause it from corrotion if you live in the rust belt.

Chances are its how you drive. Trucks cannot be driven like sports cars.

Have the rotors turned and work on braking less.

That's what is crazy to me. Total commute is 10 miles a day and I literally drive like a Grandpa. Would you change pads after turning rotors?

Yes. Or just replace them. Chances are somebody overtorqued the lug nuts.
