I'm sure this subject has been covered, but my search has been in vain. I am installing a power inverter under the center console of my 2014 DCSB, and I am in need of some help finding the best and shortest route to run a pair of #4 AWG wires directly from the battery to the rear of the center console. Specifically, I'd like to know where to come through the firewall, and then what's the best route to the console. I'm sure there is a thread somewhere with someone's personal experience.

So, why do you need such a large capacity inverter inside your cab?

May be more so for the length of the run. I have a 700w one that requires that big of a wire for the run.

Installing a 600 watt pure sine wave inverter. According to the manufacturer, my inverter should be supplied by #4AWG with a 100 amp fuse if the distance from the battery is greater than 6 feet.

There's a main wiring harness grommet behind the under hood fuse box that will probably be the most direct route to get to the center console.

    600W is a 5A @ 120vAC
    Say you have a 70% efficient inverter --> 600W @ 12VDC @70% = ~72A

Ok the math is fine and dandy for this 4ga wire to be required with 100A fusing.

    BUT answer me this

OK, if that's what the manufacturer recommends. That's going to be fun running that into the cab and under the console.

Bulletproof wiring is better than a burnt truck!

I say keep on OP! Wish I could tell you an easier route to run that wire, all I can tell ya...get the most flexible wire you can find!

And I don't think a 600 watt inverter is that big.

@B100BOB You're not answering my question... I just want to know why you chose 600w instead of something smaller like a 200w. Do you need more than 1.6Amps @ 120vac for equipment in your truck?

So let me rephrase my question. Should I come through the grommet where all the wires pass now, and run under the door sill, then under the seat to the middle, or is there a better route?

Use a punch to make the way for the wire through the grommet. Go across the firewall to the center console and run it straight back down the middle.

I'm using 2 AWG flex for my extra fuse panel install. Why? Because bulletproof! That's why!

The fuse block can run up to 100 amps IIRC and so can the breaker, so why not run cable with, at minimum, the same capability?!

Can't wait for you people to post about your electrical fires and issues a year from now

Use my above link to the overlandexpedition thread to find out how others are running their wiring. Some people use those insulated pass through lugs to get into the cab.

I have a 300 watt now. I can't even use a small air pump to blow up an air mattress without overloading it.
