According to NADA, it's worth $5100 clean retail with the mileage factored in, without the rear e-locker, bumpers, or roof rack factored in. $2k is somewhere between rough trade-in ($1550) and average trade-in ($2325). Nobody is going to sell their mechanically sound vehicle for what they could get for it in trade-in. So, no, I don't think he's as out of the ballpark as you're thinking. It may not be worth it to you, but it's still a desirable vehicle with interesting options included.

That said, I think now that I've bothered to do the research, I would probably offer him $5k to start and maybe go up as much as $5800 or so just because of the bumpers and E-locker...if I was in the market to get another one.

 

Yeah Id go up to like 5750. Wheels, tires,bumpers, roof rack with portable water prob close to 2500

Dude you could sell that thing for like $50 bucks. Its good to have if your radiator cakes up with mud and you over heat

 

Or if you just wanted to rinse the mud off your mirrors or windows for the trip home...or if you want to rinse the dirt off your hands after a trail repair or recovery. That's why I'm always carrying the blue jug around when I wheel.

Hell yeah lol some of that mud was nasty. She ran great on the way home doing 75-80.I was thinking I could make jello with it.

Probably fit you better. The down side being there's no old-skool goodies (like a manual T-case) to be had without doing some serious reengineering (FJC case or something). But then you're dealing with the same thing with your Taco, so it's really just more of the same. Although I think @xweslingx said it was tricky to put dirty-5s on the 4th gens due to the rear doors being part of the rear wheel wells. I'm sure it could be done though.

 

Yeah I'm planning on doing FJ t-case and manual trans. 35s will be forced to fit one way or another.

Then again, the 80 series LC is a hard thought to shake.

 

Yeah, if you can pony up the jack for one, it'd be nice. Isn't it a solid front axle? I can't remember. Still has the issue with the large tire clearance on the rear doors though I think, but I've seen them tubbed out with 38s or 40s so it can be made to work. Just depends on how motivated you are and how deep your pockets are, haha.
