Door seals constantly squeak

I know exactly where the noise is coming from. I carry a 3"x5" index card in my visor and I slide it up in the window seal when I'm gonna be driving for awhile. It stops the sound immediately. No lube of any kind has seemed to touch it. I'll try the napa stuff.

I also noticed that if you go back and forth between re-circulate and fresh air on the AC it can have an effect on the amount of squeak. Must be a cabin pressure thing.

made specifically for rubber seals, use it all the time on my miata seals as well as window tracks and anything else. little goes a long way.

 

These trucks have weak frames. There is lots of flex. It may be a temporary fix, but it won't solve the problem.

 

So I went into the dealership and said I wanted to buy a new one and the tech guy told me to go to parts and ask for the door run. Rang me up for 68151-04030, better be the right part. Didn't seem interested in the slightest in helping me.

Hey, if someone Truely finds a permanent fix for this, please post it up. I have been having to tolerate multiple seals making noise for well over a couple years now and I'm over it.

 

Yeah, that sounds like the typical dealer response. They just try to sell you something. The give you a bandaid for the symptoms but don't get to the root of the problem. Let me know how it goes for you by replacing the seal. How much did they charge you for that part?

 

The challenge has been that there seems to be numerous causes so pinning down which one is making your noise becomes difficult. There's the kazoo noise I remedied by sticking tubing in the top of the door. Then there's the noise described in this thread which is the irritating noise by your ear coming from the door seals. I fixed this with a twofold approach - weatherstripping stuck to the inside of the door frame and inserting tubing into the door seal on the frame.

The combination of those three fixes have had my door noise-free for a year now and counting.

 

So, after googling the part # I found another thread here that had two people say it changed nothing. I called right back and cancelled the order. ($135 with tax).

 

I'll try this. What tubing did you use that was slim enough to fit in the tight space of the seal itself? I've tried cut rubber bands along there lol, it seemed to make it worse after about a day.

 

I don't know the exact OD of the tube I used because now it's buried inside the seal, probably 1/8" or 1/4". I just sprayed it with silicone and shoved the tubing inside the small holes of the door seal as pictured here:


As for the door, here is where I attached weatherstripping to quiet things down. Looks terrible but doesn't make any noise!


I think my truck made the most possible noises - the door itself making noise against the door frame seal (fixed by adding the weatherstripping) AND the door frame seal making noise by sticking to itself (fixed by jamming tubing inside the door frame seal). The kazoo noise was a third noise my door made but that's a different discussion in another thread. A total of three noises in the driver's door.

If the above is true that's where the confusion on this subject comes in... Different causes in different areas that sound the same but require different fixes.

 

Was it just a clear tubing you bought at like Home Depot or something?
Did you use 1 continuous piece of tubing?
Is the idea of placing tubing inside the rubber door frame seal to make it more difficult for that seal to compress?

Yes, clear tubing from any hardware store or Home Depot.

I used two pieces per door because I couldn't get one continuous piece to make the sharp angle in the corner of the door.

Yes, the idea is to firm up the door seal to make a better seal and eliminate the noise. Which it did.

I get black marks where everything is been rubbing so it's really easy to identify where everything is rubbing and making their noises.
But just clean the shit and no issues

 

I need to try that weather stripping. I have that rattle sound and the kazoo as well, so I feel your pain. Has the adhesive on the white weather stripping held up over time?

 

Yes it has. The adhesive isn't the best but the door remains closed 99% of the time so it keeps pressure on it to remain in place. So far so good.

 

Not same issue but similar spot. My driver and passenger windows sound like they're loose and bounce around in door anywhere from fully open to closed. Googled but couldn't find anything. Is this another common tacoma quirk by chance

Someone mentioned using the fuzzy side of velcro.
This works awesome, it completely eliminates the paint rubbing on the rubber - I took a little road trip yesterday and I'm not hearing that squeak at all.
I got a little carried away, but I'm sure you could just do the corner and 6-7 inches on the top or down the side, just where needed. $18 for 10 foot strip, but I think they also had a 5 foot option too.
This worked for me but you might have to experiment with the location, I bought the 10 foot strip cuz I was prepared to do the inside of the door frame too, but I didn't need to.
