A TRD mystery, help me sleuth?

Whats confusing there?

 

For OP. To be fair, before I bought my truck and did the research I didn't know you could get a 2WD TRD. Didn't make sense. But most tacomas around here are 4x4.

 

What is a mystery to me is why people buy vehicles and then do their research

The stock trd offroad suspension sucks.
5100s decent coils, or 6112 plus a decent leaf pack or progressive aal makes things much smoother.
Trd offroads love to buck around over the simplest transitions like bridge expansion joints, or road imperfections

I mean eastern WA is pretty flat once you get over the pass and has an arid climate, but there still a lot of good places you can go wheeling out there that would need 4wd. Always wondered what the point of a 2wd truck with a locker was. Wouldn't a regular sr5 4x4 be better?

4x4 with an open diff vs a 2wd with a locker I bet the 2wd will do just as fine if the guy knows how to control his truck

 

My guess is on hard dry rock like moab you can get away with it. I saw a video of a stock crown vic crawling around moab.

That and the fact that there are literally online copies of the 2nd gen brochures that makes every even minute difference crystal clear.

 

Can you explain that to me?, can you enumarate which are the big differences between a SR5 4x4 and a TRD 4x4 far from e-locker?
