Who knows. Shit just doesn't make any logical sense to me - if he's upside down ~$3,000, that ~$1,500 or so spent on 6112s and 5160s is 50% of his negative equity. There's got to be some other side of the story he's not unloading it ASAP. Okay, sure, his stock rear shocks blew, but that's what warranty is for. Okay, fine, dealer didn't warranty it (I doubt it - seems like he has a good personal relationship with his dealer), get a set of take-offs here for like $150. Or hell, even a set of 5100s for like $400 to get the truck back working (or just the rear shocks alone), not 6112s, AAL, and 5160s. Not telling him how to spend his money, but the numbers just don't add up. Or he's not telling us something critical in this equation. Or he just secretly enjoys his truck and has to keep up his TW "image" or something ridiculous like that.

Right, and the mods really just push it to absurdity. Even if truck was bone stock you still lose money if you are going to trade no matter what. If I had a car I hated I would dump it as soon as I can. Basic economics and depreciation. You don't make monthly payments on whatever the car is worth at the moment. So every payment I make on that car is losing money. Either he hates his money or he doesn't hate his taco as much as he lets on.

Exactly. He must hate his "lemon" of a "turd gen" that much.

You could have bought a Nissan, Chevy, Ford or something else that wasn't a first model year though. Then came back in four or five years! We always have choices and
It truly depends on what they trade for. We all know, or should know, that buying a new vehicle is a terrible investment anyway. It loses money as you drive it off the lot and never quits. Getting rid of newer one just speeds up the process a bit. A few years ago we got a new vehicle for my wife that, while she loved for the first few months, she just came to hate it after about a year. No real issues, just did not like it from the color to the cupholders. So, we went and test drove, test drove test drove and she found a different vehicle she liked. We traded, we lost money and we moved on. I sure didn't go on a forum and complain about it though. How much is happiness worth is the question. Apparently not much for some of these guys.

Don't know but it's always better to keep your vehicle as long as you can tolerate driving it.
I paid $36,233 OTD for my truck. KBB says the private party value is $34,560 in very good condition with 16k miles on the clock. In my case I am looking at a $1673 loss if I could find someone to pay top dollar for my truck. I paid right under $34k for it pre-taxes and fees so a lot of buyers can get into a new one for less; therefore, getting kbb private party value might be unrealistic.
The trade in value if I take it to the dealership is $31,975 in very good condition. Estimated $4,258 loss if I can get top dollar trading it in at the dealer but I doubt the dealer will give me that much and they will probably low ball my trade by $2k and offer me $29,975. I would be looking at a $6,258 loss trading my truck in on another one.

I see why smitty is hesitant on trading the truck because a $6-7k hit isn't chump change. Apparently though the issues he is having he can still tolerate driving the truck.

Does not compute with his posts here. That's the problem we're trying very hard to grasp and understand.

    Here's a theory

The last few pages of this thread, and many other threads are revolving around one member, who apparently likes the attention.

So we are feeding the (.....). And TW is laughing all the way to the bank....lol

Again, how much is happiness worth? I know people who spend hundreds of thousands of dollars for happiness and go their whole life without getting it. $6-$7K is chump change to be happy. Ask the guy who stepped out on his wife how much he is paying in alimony and child support for that two minutes of happiness. Ask the person who thought it would make them happy to spend $250K on a college education of a dead language that was useless. Ask that person who spends thousands of dollars a year on diets because being a bit thinner will make them happy. Ask that racer guy how much money he spends every year to finish last in the local Autocross because it makes them happy. And finally, ask the guy who spent thousands on a truck and mods because he THOUGHT he needed the off road ability. He could have just got a Yaris and been fine. Trust me... $6-$7K to be happy is a drop in the bucket.

Depends on if it's a manual or not. I have the 8.75 rear end, sr5 manual.

These are true statements. My aunt sent $8k on a 7 day cruise to Jamaica but she said she had a great time. That cruise depreciated a lot quicker than an automobile and it only lasted 7 days. At least you can drive and enjoy a car for several years if you find one that makes you happy.

Im sorry but this is incorrect. It doesn't matter how bad the hit is now. Only that the hit will be worse later on. If you are absolutely going to trade it later the rate of depreciation doesn't matter. You're throwing money away keeping a car you're getting rid of anyway. This is super basic. But hey, your life your money.

For the price of trading and based on situational timing I will make this truck work (tolerate) until I am ready to trade. I enjoy sharing my experience with the truck here as I think it's important consumers are informed on both good and bad of a product.

I agree, but the point I was trying to make further disqualifies IQS surveys as being useful as the Sierra and Silverado are built on the same platform, same dimensions, same drivetrain even assembled at the same factory. Yet according to JD power's IQS the Silverado is the best and the Sierra sucks as far as quality, which makes no sense since they are literally the same truck. I'd argue it has much more to do with the demographics of the customers than the trucks themselves, Silverados get sold to blue collar guys that in general aren't as particular about stuff, they're more accommodating when little stuff goes wrong it doesn't bother them as much. Whereas the Sierras are sold more to white collar management types (more expensive) who appear to be more bitchy about every little thing. That's the only explanation I can see for the discrepancy of complaints between Sierras and Colorado.

Also something I've experienced first hand when I was first in the car business working at a dual Hyundai/Subaru store. Hyundai customers would have a small issue with like say the Bluetooth and the general response is "meh its new technology shit happens" and pretty easy to work with. God forbid a Subaru customer has a Bluetooth glitch and "I DON'T DESERVE THIS! THIS IS A BRAND NEW CAR THERE SHOULDN'T BE PROBLEMS! I WANT TO SPEAK TO YOUR MANAGER! I'M GOING TO TELL EVERYONE ABOUT THIS! I'LL SEE YOU IN COURT!!" Obviously exaggerating here a little bit, but not that much :/

Sharing experiences is one thing, but when you dedicate your life to 12545 posts of redundancy it becomes questionable really.
After one post for howling holes we got it the first time. We really did.

totally agree...its a bore. Guess some folks like hearing themselves type...and seeing people respond negatively to the constant negativity; some people are just like that. Mostly online. What a waste of energy and time. Whatever.
