Take it as face value then. It doesn't detract from the first half of his post. It's shows how frustrated people are with Toyota's (non) responsiveness. Waiting months at a dealership is absolute horseshit. People forget they had two months to prepare inventory for the recall. They are dragging their feet and their is no evidence that they fixed the root cause(or have even identified it).

And that's for a recall. The rest of the issues are getting blown off. The diff howl is disgusting and they'll replace it...once. then "it's normal".

Whether or not gm or Honda etc is doing a better job addressing issues isnt entirely relevant. A lot of people have that perception of the situation, so the net effect is the same. Regardless, Toyota doesn't seem to deserve any praise for how they've handled this truck roll out.

Lol sure it is. Saying one is worse than the other without any verifiable information is just opinion passed off as fact. It's also his whole schtick.

Was directed at me? Because I read your post, but your reasoning makes no financial or even logical sense.

What do you think perspective buyers of a 3rd gen Tacoma are going to do? They are going to Google "Tacoma Reviews" and end up at all the bad Youtube reviews. They could end up at all the bad Quality reviews from CR and JD powers. Worse yet, they could end up here lurking the forums and reading all your posts and others. Then they say "Nope!" and buy some other truck.

With each person that gets turned off by the overwhelming amount of negative TW posts, or the overwhelming amount of negative press in online 'print" articles and YouTube videos, the Demand for New and used Tacomas begins to fall.

Once demand falls, you will take a even bigger hit on your trade value than you think.

Furthermore, if everyone is right about this vehicle, then who knows what could happen next? The engine could blow up, the Wheels could break off. What about the front differential? that doesn't get used by Tacoma owners at even 1/100th the amount of the rear diff, so the pontential problems with that may not have surfaced yet. The front diff could fail while you are in 4x4 mode.

Why wait for any of these potential disasters to happen? Just cut your loses now while you still can.

No I got you. Come here. Shhhhhhh this is a science thread where people are arguing about things that matter. I know you came in here the second it got inappropriate, but we have to sorta watch until these guys sort out whether or not this truck will have resale value.

No. Maybe isn't good enough. I just bought my truck 8 months ago and have no plans on selling it anytime soon and I need a definitive answer to an unanswerable question that has zero bearing on what future Lt. Dangle does.
    Or does not do.

It will. It always does. It never won't. Some diffs were wonky, Toyota's recall was to check and see if there was a problem and when there wasn't, because there wasn't, they placated everyone.

I know a good portion of your posts are subtle trolls, but I'll bite on this.

His financial and logical reasoning is pretty sound. I've also been looking at un loading my truck. Trade in values that I've been quoted at dealerships are all over the map but can eventually be brought to $3-4k less than market price. In other words you'd be leaving thousands of dollars on the table (I believe he said he doesn't want to lose thousands of dollars.)

A private sale is the next option, but it really isn't all that ideal. Personally, I'd feel bad selling my truck to some poor schmuck, and I'd feel skeevy if I tried to sell it without disclosing the diff howl (not that they could miss it) or any of the trucks other problems. The transferable Platinum warranty might help with that, but it would still be a tough sell imo. Not to mention the hassle of dealing with the Craigslist crowd or other potential buyers who want to come test drive at all hours, probably don't have cash or secured financing, etc etc. You'd have to price yourself a grand or two under market to move it quickly, because otherwise you are competing with dealerships that can offer to take their trade in or give them financing. So at that point, after all the hassle, you're still going to leave $1-2k on the table. It's not worth it.

As far as depreciation: The longer you keep the truck the flatter the depreciation slope gets. Selling it right out of the gate would net you the biggest loss. They way these trucks are valued he could lose $3k now or drive it for another year or two and lose $3500 then--after getting 2 years worth of value(read:driving) out of it.

So that leaves us in a tough spot: unwilling to lose thousands of dollars or forced go back and forth with Toyota until they make it right. I personally haven't found a deal where the math works and the search for a new ride is exhausting in itself. So I'm here, commiserating with all of the other disaffected 3rd gen owners, clamouring for Toyota to acknowledge our trucks have problems.

A smart man on this forum (few of those) once instructed me that you can attack and undermine a persons POST, but often times when you attack the person, it bites you in the ass.
