I just did one of those. I ended up tying a bowline in it around a hammer handle, so i could basically beat it into the seat.

If you don't feel like fucking with that, it's really not required for that part to be fully seated. 5 turns around the drum are all that's required to build the friction to hold it, and if you ever get less than that it'll definitely seat then.

Just as a general FYI in case people don't know, tying a knot in Amsteel/Dyneema etc reduces the load rating by nearly 50%.

I know thats not what you were talking about doing just figured I'd throw it out there.

    Shit on a black truck.
I pulled the slack and gave it a little tug. Couple taps on the wedge and called it good just enough to get the rope from pushing out from the drum. Thanks for the help though. IMG_6648.jpg

Absolutely. Being clear, I'm talking a bout a knot that will always come out and a load that's way under what will deform that line. Tying a knot in it and pulling 10k, way bad yo.

The nice thing about the way that drum and rope are configured is that you could probably go to zero wraps and put full tension on it. It's not like the old wire under a bolt thing, where you actually had to rely on friction to hold the rope to the drum.

Anyone interested in some free 1/8" steel bed rails? Replaces the crappy plastic rails, similar to the rails KB Voodoo makes, but wider. I welded these up to go under my new camper, but going a different direction now so don't really need them.

It's a version of a wedge socket, which wehn used with the right size wedge can be better than 90% strength. Google that shit, it's a common thing cor overhead lifting, cranes and such.

So its the same thing as a dogin off the line or how you set up a becket on a ball. The line runs dowm and around the thimble. The you pound a wedge socket down.

I have done overheads, towers, hydralic, and lattice booms. It sounds like they made a improvment. Thanks again Jim.

Just out of curiosity, when this happens do you just write it off or does someone at the bottom of the totem pole have to attempt to fish it back out?

Depends on who's looking and if what fell in will have an impact on the environment.
