Bilstein 5100 w/ OME 885

also after i install everything i should get it aligned asap right? i drive 30 miles highway round trip to work mon-fri. prob shouldnt drive to work a few days un aligned right?

 

While it's not the end of the world to drive it for a few days, I'd get it aligned ASAP. With that being said, you'd most likely be fine for a couple days. May just get some premature tire wear.

 

Why os the 5100s and OME coils favourable? why not go with OME shocks+OME coils? one would think they were designed for each other? Noobie needs help

 

Some people favor the 5100s because they are a monotube, high pressure gas shock while the OME shock is a twin tube, low pressure. (This changes the way they feel while driving)

Basically the billies are a little bit better at dissipating heat which helps their performance.

 

For me it's because they're cheaper.

Which coil springs are you running and at what setting on the Bilsteins?

 

I'm running the 884 coils with the 5100s on 0 which gave me just under 3" of lift on my truck. If you run any ome coil, leave it at 0 because otherwise it'll ride harsher.

 

I really can't speak from experience on how the ride feels for the OME
I can say that I have the 5100 and 885 coils and I am satisfied with the way it sits and rides.
As for the rear, I can't speak on that either because I have an AAL

 

It is done. I just put an order in with the 5100s! pumped!

If i want a 2in lift, would 885/5100 and 2in aal be the way to go? DCSB 4x4. Marie said the 884s are fine but would it settle past the 2in mark?

 

884s would be what you want. I had 885s with a 2" AAL and got ~2.5" in the front.

Going with 888s. Honestly don't know much about the coils. Just what my local shop suggested given my usage.

 

They made the right choice. That'll give you 2.5"-2.75" of lift with your truck.

You're also getting aftermarket UCA's right? Anything over 2 inches will likely require replacing the stock UCA's in order to get a decent alignment. That added expense and maintenance is one of the reasons I stayed below 2 inches.

 

Not entirely true. I have a little less than 3" on stock ucas, and was able to get 1.6 degrees of caster. It's not the best, but I'd consider it decent. Steering is a little twitchy above 75 mph, but I rarely drive that fast anyways and even when I do, I still feel very safe and stable in my truck.

 

Are you guys running a small top plate spacer on top of the 885s with the 5100s set at 0 to run 285s? I placed an order with wheelers off-road today and they recommended the small top spacer to give a litte additional lift to accommodate the 285s.

 

That little bit of extra lift isn't going to guarantee you to be able to fit 285s. Once the tire hits a bump and is compressed into the wheel well, lift isn't a factor anymore. You're pretty much guaranteed to have to trim plastic, and pretty likely to have to do a CMC in order to not rub.
