    That's what I want eventually, a rack that will still work with the oem cover so I can open it with the rack installed.

    A rack like that would require legs that are totally vertical, rather than angled to match the truck. It would look weird. Lol

    Pretty much....

    I've been using this rack for a little over a year (on two different trucks), and haven't had a need to open the cover yet. And that includes nearly 100 mountain bikes rides, and several camping trips.
