Bilstein 5100 w/ OME 885

I'm okay with that. Just curious if others had done the same with the coil/shock combo. Also are you guys running differential drop kits? I've heard some people say you need it and others say not to waste your money.

 

It's a matter of personal opinion, as it's a hot topic around here. I ran one on my last truck, but not on this truck and have no plans to. Since it's inexpensive and helps a little bit, no harm in running it.

 

I run a 1/4 inch spacer on the driver's side to compensate for lean, not to run a larger tire. I have 265/70/17.

No diff drop as I'm just under 2 inches front and back.

 

Gotcha. Just didn't know if I made a mistake going with those spacers since I'll be running factory ucas.

 

Same here, only the 1/4 on the drivers side, and as stated previously 285 don't clear because of lift, if I put my factory suspension back on I would still clear my 305s, once the shock compresses and your wheel stuffs you are back to stock anyway, otherwise don't hit bumps , you will need to trim/bend around some plastics and most likely a CMC, alignment specs will help with the cab mount

 

Should I be okay running stock UCAS?

 

If you are using the top plate spacer on both sides it will be hit or miss, I had no problem with my alignment with stock uca, I now have spc UCA's but only because I got a good deal on them.

 

Exactly. No one can definitively say for sure one way or another.

 

Is anyone else running 285s with the 5100/885 setup?

 

I did on my last truck. Not top plate spacers at all. Did the CMC, trimmed some plastic, and hammered the pinch weld and had minimal rubbing off-road.

 

Looks great! Hopefully I don't have to do all that. I'm not familiar with the pinch weld mod but I'll look it up. Just would like to see pictures like this and other experiences with that size. I ordered 285/70/17 ko2s with method standard wheels if that makes a difference.

It's basically pulling the plastic liner back, hammering the weld with a BFH, then putting the liner back.

@EatSleepTacos So I got my lift put on today. The mechanic set the circlip onthe second from bottom notch at 0.67" on 888 coils. Will I run into issues? I feel like I'm getting a lot of the road feel through the steering wheel. Does it need to settle in?

 

No, what you feel is what you get. It's because the coil is preloaded to gain more lift, but it results in a harsher ride. Another thing to potentially smooth out the ride is to drop your tire pressure. Depending what it's at, lower is better.

 

Would putting it at stock 0 setting mitigate anything?

 

Yes, removes preloading the coil. For 5100s to achieve lift is been recommended to run taller aftermarket springs at 0 or preload the stock springs with the clip. Preloading g gives you lift but a stiffer ride. You just compressed larger springs to make it even stiffer.
