Someone posted this blurb on the Tacoma from Consumer Reports in another group. I would of liked to see the statement backed up, but interesting nonetheless.

The Tacoma section is at 1:47 Sec

Interesting they didn't like the ZR2 diesel more off road. Of course, it is a pretty weak diesel but diesel torque is amazing off road. And you should feel 100lb.ft. difference. Put a 3.0TDI in it . . . plus 8 gears and I will buy one even though it is the last thing I need right now . . .

The gas zr2 would have been a more direct powertrain comparrison. The 3.6 w/ 8 speed would destroy the taco in a drag race if that baby duramax basically tied it.

It's good to finally see competition, we all win in the end

Seen one in person yesterday. All I could say is "meh". Suspension on it was stupid crazy.

It's not that bad looking and the suspension is alright. The TRD pro just looks way better inside and out. Plus you get Toyota reliability and resale.

Honestly though the ZR2 looks ten times better than the regular Colorado. Man I want to puke every time I see one on the road.

LOL. Beat me to it - and AZ of all places!

Mediocre design in and out. Not trading in my base model 4x4 '14 yet.

You guys are hilarious. I only stopped to snap photos of the truck. I didn't know these were being sold yet.

You guys are so funny! Such Toyota fan boys! :p I can't say much though because I am too! I had a second gen Tacoma, then an FJ which I had for years. I worked for Toyota and always looked down at Chevy and Ford. I was looking at a TRD Pro Tacoma and actually just bought a ZR2. You guys shouldn't bash until you've driven one. Way more truck for the money in my book. Toyota got lazy with the new Tacomas in my opinion. We shall see how the zr2 holds up. Who knows maybe I'll be back to Toyota sooner than expected lol. Oh and by the way the multimatics are wayy more than a marketing scheme. Best driving truck I have ever driven on road by a mile. Going to test them off the beaten path soon to see if it can come anywhere near the kings on my FJ.

The one situation where the Diesels increased torque should of become apparent (the rocky climb) was somewhat negated I think because they used crawl control on the Tacoma. In "real life" I think the extra torque would come to be appreciated overtime.

The Twins oil burner is something like 2 secs slower than the 3.6 V6's 0-60, so yeah I would of liked to see the gassers go head to head as well!
And with the Ranger due to drop fairly soon, there will be even more competition, good for all in the midsize marketplace!

Not sure I quite understand your logic, the only difference (hard part appearance wise) between the regular Colorado & the ZR2 is the hood, front bumper & rear bumper step delete. Nothing drastic by any means...

Good to hear this from a loyal Toyota owner, willing to compare the two side by side then logically choose the truck that ticks off more box's and has the greater appeal & value to them, but in all honesty there's actually quite a few with similar stories as yours on the Colorado/Canyon forum. And not just those who bought ZR2's but also reg Canyon's & Colorado's! Rather this then dish out the same old "reliability & resale" line without comparing features, cost & driving both. Pretty hard to say poor resale on a truck that's just been released! LOL

I like how 309 pounds is called "barely" heavier. And that's for the version of the truck not in this review. The truck they did review is 570# more than the pro...

I do think the pro, and OR, need better tires though. The duratracs kill the Goodyear's in any comparison that a review is gonna do of an off road truck. I'd still take the pro for 6g's less and buy tires and a front locker and call it good with money left over. Maybe buy a whole new suspension and a lunch and be done.
