    I'll be in line for a test drive for sure. I'm really curious to see what the uptick for the diesel will be. The 3.5 ecoboost is already a premium so I'm curious to see how they're going to have the diesel option priced to compete with the other engines.

    Honestly, with the trend that Ford has been on for the last few years, we can probably expect a 5.0 delete when the intro the diesel. Ford really seems to be moving away from the NA motors.

    I did the math once based on average fuel prices across the country over the past 3 years (to come up with the difference between gas and diesel), real-world reported MPG difference between the two, and the cost of the option.

    I didn't factor in DEF and still determined that you'd never break even over the life of the truck. I can't remember the exact number of miles and can't seem to find it now. Maybe I'll just do it again.

    There are reasons for a diesel in a midsize truck, but economy shouldn't be one of them.

    I really hope not. I don't think they'll drop their only V8 in the half ton line up. I was sort of wondering if the 3.5 ecoboost would get the axe. The 2.7 ecoboost seems to do pretty much the same job. Maybe they'll drop the 5.0 and bring the 6.2 back to the half ton as a option.

    Quick numbers.
    454,294 miles based on EPA Combined
    791,635 miles based on EPA City
    1,558,805 miles based on EPA Highway
    137,713 based on an extremely optimistic view that you will consistently average 32 MPG with the Diesel and 22 MPG with the gas.

    None of these numbers account for DEF. Strictly the average price of each fuel over the past 5 years, the MPG, and the up-front cost of the diesel option.

    I pulled the EPA numbers based on crew cab 4x4s.
