It's so nice to see this crowd stay so civil!!! Everyone pat yourself on the back!! Great crowd!!
the word is not my 'sticking' point....see nd's post below.

hey pt, see nd's post below for my answer.
nd, excellent post!! I really enjoy your insight on this topic. I figured your key words in red were appropriate...;) I don't understand why people will say adaptation is evolution. There is a definate line between the two and it seems so simple to me.

if you dont like it, stop fucking posting or unsubscribe from the thread. and saying religion is responsible for wars and preying on little boys is just stupid. human nature is why we have wars. its why people are killed and tortued, not religion, religion is just an excuse people use to justify what they do. if religion didn't exist we'd just find other reasons to kill and fight. why? because thats what human beings do. i hate to use southpark in a serious discussion but they hit the nail on the head with their evolution episode. ifwe did away with religion we'd end up fighting anyway. children are molested and sold as slaves every day. not cause of church, but because people are fucking sick at the core. think of all hte serial killers that torture and rape and mutilate victims. religion isn't the problem, people are

thanks. i think evolution means different things to diffent people. everything evolves, but the word "evolution" has become synonymous with the theory that every living thing on this planet originated from some slime. there is a difference between evolving and evolution. one is a process, the other is a theory but that line gets blurry in discussions like this

So evolution is fake, religion is real, and some guy can live for 800 years?

And I'm the crazy one for not believing in religion?

well if he lived for 800 years....and the only people there originally were him and eve, then they had kids, the only way to further populate would be banging their own children/parents/brothers/sisters, correct? i think that's what he was getting at

Whether you believe in God or not invokes the one right that most Christians forget. On the whole, it is in most christian faiths to 'spread the word so that all man may know'. The problem becomes when many christians forget what makes us human, Free Will. No one can force you to believe or to stray away from God. The decision is your own. Whether you believe in Creationism, Evolution, or a combination of both the fact is it's your choice.
Some agnostics don't see why God would cause all these natural desasters in the world and stop there. The Christian would see it as a misfortunate event and then see how it's an opportunity for God to do work through peopel to help rebuild the community. Either way you look at it, the individual has a choice to get involved or not. Just like the commercials with the crazy bearded guy saying how you should sponsor a child. Or sheryl crow saying to adopt a pet. It's your free will to choose.

I think we have DE-Evolved... if that is a word... God created us perfect with a free will we screwed up the only rule he gave us and went downhill form there... Not from a knowledge standpoint but from a genetic standpoint.... Just another point of view... I made it up but if think on it long enough it make some sense.

Dude, seriously, you make my head spin a little bit. In the same sentence you agree that things evolve, and yet you say there's a difference between evolving and evolution? NO DIFFERENCE. Sorry, but the act of "evolving" IS EVOLUTION, they are one and the same. Like I said a while ago, I'm NOT closed minded. The earlier post saying I am is just ignorant. I believe evolution because there is over 100 years of scientific evidence to back it up. Darwin wrote his book back in 1850's, and people have been trying to prove or disprove it ever since. Bacteria is just 1 example of being able to "see" evolution take place, there are many, many others. Even as far back as the late 1800's, at the end of the century, evolution occurred in a type of moth in England that has been well documented.
OK, so I would like to ask a few more questions, and then I'll be done with things (maybe):

    1) why do whales still have rear leg bones?
    2) why do WE still have tail bones?
    3) if all living things aren't all related, why does every living thing have the same DNA structure?
    4) same thing, if all thing aren't related, why do we look almost exactly the same as a rat and a chicken when we are developing embryos?

In a way, creationists have set themselves up to be winners no matter what, because I think God asks people not to ask him to prove himself, but yet creationists constantly ask for proof of evolution.

just because something can evolve, does not mean the theory of evolution is correct. when i say theory of evolution, i mean single cell to human, i just cant buy that. if you were to tell me all birds evolved from a single species of bird, i might believe you. but if you told me birds came from dinosaurs id say your full of shit. i agree that over hundreds of millions of years a single bird could eventually evolve into all the species we see today. i belive in unlmimited evolution within a species, but not cross species evolution

    1) It's a small boney appendage. It could just as easily be defined as a genetic defect. It doesn't mean that it was once a leg. That's the leap that the evolutionists are making. For example, this woman has a horn growing out of her head. If we were to uncover a civilization where the entire group had horns growing out of their heads, we wouldn't assume they were descendants of cows or unicorns. It would be viewed as a genetic defect that crept into the gene pool.
    2) The tailbone is a misnomer. It's not the vestigial remnant of some ancient tail. It's the fastening point for the back muscles and the gluteous maximus. Without it, we wouldn't be able to stand up straight.
    3) This point is circular. All living things by definition have DNA.
    4) When we grow from a single cells we're bound to look similar to any creature that has a spine, and a head as the spinal column and the head are the first to develop. However anyone with basic biology training can tell the difference. That doesn't mean one derived from the other or a common ancestor. It's just the human's ability to see a similarity when there is none. It's a similar argument for the face on Mars. Some humans see a face and interpret it to be signs of an ancient civilization. However, it's just a random pattern that happened to look like a face. Close up detail of the mountain shows it to be just that just like close-up detail of animals in development are different.
In a way, so have the evolutionists. They declare evolution as fact and anyone who happens to disagree "just doesn't understand it." I have a friend who is a Ph.D. in Biophysics from the University of Illinois, Urbana Champaigne who is a creationist. You can't tell me he doesn't understand what evolution is about. He just doesn't accept it.

A dog is a dog. Which came from a dog. A dog didnt come from a starfish. and a starfish didnt come from a rock. Things evolve and adapt to their surroundings I agree but again if I flap my arms enough and my kids do the same, down the lines my great grandchildren will not have wings. just tired arms. Why do we have tail bones? because we are made in God's image.

Why are some people so uncomfortable with the idea that everything is a result of completely random reactions, there is no purpose to anything, and eventually the chemical reactions will stop and you will decompose into dirt?

That doesn't seem like a stretch at all. Wind blows, tree falls over, tree rots into dirt. Why does the tree have to go to tree heaven and be judged in accordance with tree god to go to live on a tree cloud?

Seriously, religious statements made in the context of the known universe MAKE ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE.

jhodge just very simply explained that Adam, by no stretch of the imagination and be sheer circumstance, boned his kids for 800 years, as reported by whatever religious statement was quoted in the first place. Unless the flying spaghetti monster miracled more Eves, there's no other way.

The Bible is a good story book with some great examples on how to be a good person and play well with others. It's not a history book. I don't believe in all powerful beings on Mt Olympus or that every single thing has it's own diety. I believe in chemical reactions and dirt and I can show them to you all day long.

Somebody somewhere just realized "The Lord" isn't anywhere in me. And squirmed.
