Just got back from Moosehead for almost a week. Now to catch up here. 20 pages or so.

Depending on the campground you stayed at, I live 10 minutes from there.

Depends on who you're around. Getting naked around the campfire with my hunting buddies is really not on my to-do list...

Wasn't it horrible? Why would you ever want to camp there? All of the other campgrounds in the state must have been full.

Getting naked and still sweating like a pig by just standing there is not fun. Any fun shenanigans would just mean heat stroke!

I'm the same way. Not a fan of the heat! Can stand opening the door just to have it feel like you're walking into an oven

It always pays to call ahead, especially on the weekends or around holidays. If not, you might show up to a campground that's booked solid. Calling ahead can a lot of times get you a choice site, instead of one by the swamp, outhouses, etc.

Good timing. If you're looking for something fun to do, Cider stock is in VT this weekend. Almost went to go see the roots. But there's a nice camp ground down the road from them. They do a shuttle bus for the festival. That way you can enjoy Daddy pops and not get your license pulled ;)

Getting closer, just made it through the lobster talk, now back to steak and cheese or cheesesteak convo.

There is a big difference between Philly and up here. First in philly you need to go to the corner where both cheesesteak places are, try them both. If I recall correctly, been almost 20 years, the use moreover a "steak um" type there, up here we use more of a shaved steak, at least the places I like em at. Not steak chunks. In philly if you tell them "with, but need to say it funny," the scoop some cheese whiz type stuff on there. Good steak and cheese subs are grilled and then right before coming off the grill, melt the cheese and mix in. That's what makes a good steak and cheese.

On a holiday weekend, you would need reservations at most campgrounds as they book up. Heading to upstate NY, start paying attention to the Canadian holidays as many campgrounds up there will book up with Canadians traveling.
This is a great point also, although you won't always even vet that out by calling ahead. I've seen some tent sites that were so rooted up, I couldn't see how you'd ever get comfortable.

For sure, that's a factor that you definitely can't plan for. But for the rare times that I 'campground camp' I always look at the site maps online before I call so I can see which ones are on the water, more isolated, etc. and then ask for those. :notsure:

I have a RTT. As long as the truck is somewhat level, ill be good.

Does anyone have suggestions for non main camp grounds?
