It usually takes me longer to jizz in my pants ... or elsewhere ... when I've been drinking.

Alright all of you conceal carry guys, would I need to get a conceal carry permit just to legally have tools like a hatchet, machete, work knife/razor blade "concealed" in my truck in places like the center console, behind driver seat, etc?? @jschona1

I'm not sure if driving in my vehicle would classify as "on your person."

No conceal carry is for a handgun. You don't need one unless it is on your person. You can carry knives etc just be careful of where and the length. In your truck you are fine to have a weapon without a permit. Check each state you plan on traveling through though for trips as each state varies. It is better to have it and not need it though because it gives you options. But also better to know the reciprocity laws as well. Also a good holster is highly paramount if you plan on carrying.

On your person means physically on your body or in a purse or bag/ backpack you are carrying just to be clear.

@boogie3478 what @ready6delta said. Permits in VA are only for pistols, speaking of which, the next show is at the end of next month for those that are interested.

Ok so I SHOULD be fine (legal) with keeping those things in my truck out of sight without a permit?

I would think so...depending on the item, it may be advantageous to keep big knives and such away from where you keep your registration. It can make cops a little jumpy if they see that when they arnt expecting it.

Right, I keep my registration in the glove box without any tools/weapons around.

Good, when I used to have concealed they would ask every time if I was carrying. If so, then they would check the glove box and temporarily take my weapon during a traffic stop. I think its worth getting concealed for a pistol, but that stuff can get annoying.

Yeah I don't own any guns (yet) but am in the process of getting a clearance and don't want something stupid to mess anything up.

Yes it is not illegal to have "tools" in your vehicle. Just make sure you can justify them if asked. My go to reply is for off road/camping and I typically carry all that fun stuff behind my back seats. Hatchet, machete, kukri, tomahawk, etc. I keep a tactical flashlight and fixed blade up front as my go to if I ever needed it in a hurry and always have several folding knives, gerber/leatherman in glove box or center console. But what @Coot83 said....... less is more when cops can view it or they can tend to get nervous. I have been questioned several times going through the gate on post when they search my vehicle and see my machete or hatchet and I simply reply its a truck and I like to be prepared for off-road and camping.

Guns wont mess up your clearance unless you use them in the wrong way or obtain them illegally. Just don't bring them onto federal property or school grounds. VA is pretty simple to get a permit and I highly recommend you get one and a good training course and safety class or two. Let me know as I can also give you a course/training and am very well versed in home defense, personal carry defense and rifles.
