Most game animals I can spot when no one else can. But cougar are different. You don't see them unless they want you to then all of a sudden they are there. Which is why I think they worry me some. I still wouldn't shoot one unless it was coming at me or the dogs though. Same as a wolf.

Unions aren't strong here. Hardly anyone gives you a truck to drive home. Took the state job for benefits, lasted 14 months. I inquired at a university that was hiring but no truck at 45 miles a day drive, not including back and forth trips when on call so I passed. Not going to put that kind of miles on my truck and cost of gas. So I'm back at rat shop.

The only union I'm familiar with here is the grocers and only because my wife works for Fry's. It's not near as strong as Ca. From what I can see, the reps are doing little more than quoting law and policy, not so much labor agreement. Being that Az is a right to work state, I don't see it as all that strong.

Unfortunately for many of those with a PhD it stands for Piled higher and Deeper. I would have been tempted to stick my head my head in the door and say the rest of us would appreciate it if you would please just get off this planet now. Have come close before in similar situations. But I like my job.

When your in a room full of them it is always interesting to make a comment like "I can't remember is coffee good for you or going to kill you this week"?

We're going through the change where, when a position is vacated by someone who's been in it for a lot of years, that position is being down graded. I think anytime anyone has to work for less than the last person when they are considered "performance", it's unfortunate. Then the entire system is at risk of failure. The person now filling the position will never function at a level any better or higher than they have to. When the position is vacated again and the pay drops further, you eventually have such a decline in pay and effort that the positiin will never recover. Eventually a higher position has to be created to oversee the lessor position or the task of overseeing the lessor position is added to someone elses position description, adding more responsibility and having less time to fully commit to everything they are responsible for. This escalates until you have this self perpetuating tier system that's always in (or close to) failure where most are underpaid and over worked and hardly anyone has the skills to actually do the work or supervise it effectively.
