    50% wrong, first and foremost you have to make sure the equipment or typically the motor inside the equipment can be wire both ways, some motors come from the factory only capable of 120v operation, others only 240v operation, some can be wired either way, but you have to make sure it says so on the motor. If you take a 120v motor that is not designed to operate at 240v, and just hook it on up, you're gonna have a bad day.
