Thought I would start a build thread since I am in the process of some major changes on my 2017 DCLB TRD Sport. To start with, I rolled off the lot last November after picking up my ride from the stealership. With respect to the interior, I ordered the truck with Premium & Technology package, Tow package, 2 in 1 LED projector fog and day time running lights, LED interior and exterior option, along with the phone cable and charger package with two USBs. Additionally, I had leather installed because I can't stand cloth. Really kept it quite basic on the outside with the exception of LED cargo bed lights. Out the door costs were $40,800 not including taxes, tag and title fees.

Night of pick up w/the exterior LEDs on:

    Really like the LEDs:

I immediately ordered Wheel to Wheel Nerf steps from Rough Country which I somewhat regret as I kind of want sliders now. Either way the stealership tried to push them on me for $900. I got them for $400 with free shipping and installed them myself. Also ordered a set of 11" x 19" Plasticolor mud flaps from Blain's Farm & Fleet along with a set from Amazon. One set has a mountain scene etched into them which I put up front and the other has 4WD on them that installed in the rear.

    File_000 (19).jpg

Another thing I did was order black letter inserts for the rear tailgate and buy a $6 can of plastidip with intentions of blacking out the badges. This is a $300-400 upgrade from the stealership, but cost less than $30 to do myself. I haven't dipped the badges yet, but will soon. Best thing about the plastidip is I can decide what I want to black out and if I don't like it I can simply take it off.

    File_000 (21).jpg

Lastly (for that day), I ordered a Weathertech wind deflector and Weathertech bed mat. The bed mat didn't fit properly and dealing with Weathertech's customer service was a total pain. I don't know why people like them but I will never buy anything from them again. Ended up getting an OEM bed mat for much cheaper. It fit like a glove and is of much higher quality.

    File_000 (20).jpg

As a Christmas/new vehicle gift, my brother (also an Army vet) got me a chrome Combat Action Badge emblem and a chrome law enforcement flag emblem. Mounted the flag above the Tacoma badge on the driver's side door, and the CAB above the V6 emblem on the tailgate.

Other than a fairly standard tint job with Suntek CIR film that is the extent of what I have done to the truck. I have a Fox level 2 kit with Dakar EL095R leaf packs awaiting installation at which time I will also swap out my tires for 255/75/17 KO2s. I am on the fence about putting them on my stock TRD Sport rims or buying matte gray TRD Pro/SEMA 17" rims. If I can pick up a set used I may pull the trigger on them and sell my stock tires & rims on here. Welcome any thoughts or suggestions as this is my first Tacoma.

My dad's '01 has over 400k miles on it and runs and drives perfectly.

Keep up with her (as I'm sure you do) and she could last a very long time.

Do you plan on doing a lift?

Nice truck! Just found a barely-used silver one myself recently. Haven't started my own thread yet because it's bone stock haha. How do you like the bug deflector? Also what's the dealership charge you for the mat? I found a dealership in KS that has it for $85. Good/bad?

    Next Saturday. I'll post pics.

I want to say I paid $70 something so that $85 sounds about right. I only remember it was cheaper than the weather tech and it is perfect. Before anything I put back there would slide all over the place. I've had a bug deflector on every SUV and truck I've owned and I like both the look of them and the functionality. Some people say they don't actually work but I've taken more than a few road trips both with vehicles that have a deflector and some that didn't; to me they work fine.

Good looking truck! I'd only trade for sliders but I don't know who or why someone would want to trade sliders for nerf bars... ‍♂️

How are you liking the fox setup? I’m thinking of the same exact setup but with remote resi fronts. How much lift/ preload?
