Who else has the new redesigned TRD intake? I installed mine the other day and noticed it seems like it will be a huge pain in the ass to remove and service the filter. The tabs that hold the air box closed seem like a very poor design.

    Anyone else have an opinion?

Nobody here has an opinion? Or am I the only one with a new intake?

I'm pretty sure I have the first model that came out. I got mine about a year ago. Any idea why they changed the design?

it is a standard square filter element and they added the carbon filter back into it to make it CARB certified.

I just installed the original version on my 07 and I like it so far.

Gadget was also noticing that the new design tends to run lean

Wish I could compare the old one to the new performance wise. From looking at my new one and the 1st gen intake on my buddies truck I would have to say the old one is better. I think the new redesigned one is better at passing emission standards. thanks California:(

If you look carefully at the second picture, at the exposed part of the filter(red), you can see that the end closer to the passenger side is higher than the other side. It seems that the box doesn't want to seal completely. Same thing on mine.

the only thing that changed is that AFE no longer makes the intake for TRD...instead they went with AEM which happens to be the same guys who designed the TRD CAI for the Tundra...

another thing with AEM redesigne of the TRD CAI it allows this new CAI to be Carb Legal...which means guys in CALIFORNIA can now run a TRD CAI and still pass smog check and visual check...:D

click on link (pictures included in the install manual) -> AEM/TRD CAI Redesign

just saying with the redesigned TRD CAI you don't have to remove anything...you'll pass guaranteed...
