I have the same knife. It has cut up many a deer over the last 30+ years. I lost my first one and they sent me a new one.

I may try to find a new sheath on the schrade site. To bad it's all made in China now...

If I told you you wouldn't believe it.
For some unknown reason it was in my boat...
Haven't seen it for, I know now, 23 years. In the back by the fuel tank stuck between the tank and hull.
I have no idea why it was there or how it got there. I must have used it for something on the boat when it was new....

Cool story! It's a nice knife, glad you discovered it. Maybe try Redwing boot oil to soften it up.

At Some of the lakes up here they inspect your boat when you pull out to stop the spread of invasive aquatics

This one is made in USA. Not China.
I'll keep it. Mechanics are great. Needs an edge.

I'm sitting here thinking of the 22 or 23 cold Maine winters that knife and sheath went through lost in the hull. Lol!

The girls at the ramp inspect the boats for the plants. My lake is infested.
I have to teach the them where to look on my boat cause they miss the hidden places.
If I go to another lake I power wash the hull and trailer before I go.
It's a small price to do my part to have a nice place to fish.

Yea well out of sight, out of mind. Really no need for it since I didn't hunt anymore. But things have changed. Rules and laws have changed. Life has changed. I have a chance to go with my boy.
Like I said before, I don't care if I ever pull the trigger. Just being with him will be all that matters.

I'm lousy at sharpening freehand. I need a guide. Got to find something

I used to be good. My trapper grandfather taught me. He would shave his arm, finger, wherever he could find hair. It's hard to find a good stone nowadays. But I have d2 tool steel knives are my favorite.
I still have my gatco sharpening guide.

Look up the marinade. Onions, oj, lemons, oranges and some other stuff. Way better than those spices. It's what they use in this part.of the country.

Love D2 for its ability to hold an edge even with abuse. Makes up for the lack of corrosion resistance due to the low chromium content.

Cabella's has a lansky. Like 12 bucks. Maybe in stock. Now to research the blade angle to use the right one.

For 440 stainless I go with 25 or 20. Depends on how delicate of an edge you can get by with.
