My dealer is telling me that ABS was not an option on the 4 cyl. Is this truth or more used car sales "talk"?

Also, are there any other options on the standard cab that I will kick myself for not getting? This one is a 2.7L automatic 4x4. It has air & cruise, but no ABS and no CD player (yet).

Feel free to comment on the 8k haggled price as well. Id rather do the 7.5k Edmunds price but this wanker says no to that. :~D

    Cheers,

    Will

Oh, forgot details for pricing... 117k miles, auto, soft cover, pretty darn clean.

For giggles; he has the window sticker at 12,999 and a "sale" price of 9,999.

    I hate used car lots....

Im not sure about the abs but that is too much money. I would only pay a max of 8k for it and less if its a 2wd.

ABS was a factory option on all 2001 Tacoma models. ABS didn't become standard until the 2003 model year.

Don't we all. And they clean them up too much so you can't really tell how well they were maintained, or where leaks, etc. may lurk.

Prices vary greatly regionally. Where do you live, and have you checked comps on craigslist (private and dealer)?

Re ABS, I am not sure either, but from what I have read, a lot of folks have been frustrated with it, especially if they deal with snow and ice regularly--so again, is this an issue where you live?. I hope I am not confusing 1st g and 2nd g, but it is probabaly the same. I was glad mine didn't have it. I prefer doing my own modulating.

OP did state 4wd. But is it a TRD (Rear diff locker) or SR5? Power mirrors are nice. There are so many price factors...can the seller produce service records? How many previous owners? You can also go down the list of typical fixes for this mileage to haggle him down:

(note: inflated sucker dealer prices in most cases, not what you would actually have to pay if shrewd)

--Rear leaf springs: $700 from dealer
    --Shocks all around: $300
--Timing belt/water pump replacement at 90K miles? $500.
--Steering rack and sway bar bushings: crap, don't have this handy, search for this in the suspension threads
--Door weatherstrip (piece at the bottom of the windows that are likely fried): $70/pair from dealer

Um, uh, anyone else want to add?

Oh, and I am assuming that you have already checked into the FRAME RUST ISSUE THOROGHLY COVERED IN THIS FORUM (oops, sorry, Austin Powers raising voice moment), big issue in NE and Rockies....

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
No TRD available on a single cab or a 4 cyl auto.

Ah, thanks for the info. I don't know all the 1st gen spec breakdown, but that would make sense.
