Thank you! I haven't even finished my remodel project yet! I may have to take some time off before I do anything like this again haha.

Started the next project. I wasted most of day one chasing an electrical problem as I had relocated the three plugs. The switching one is on top of the shelf now. I had mentioned it a page or two back. Spent today working up the wall. I ran out of stained wood so I will go back to that tomorrow. Then I have to finish the top of this wall and the one with the sliding glass door to the left. Trim it all and varnish.

More pre-work for my window install next month (2 Andersen 400 series D/H). Cut to rough length & primed the stool (1x3) pieces, extension jamb pieces (1x3 to be ripped in half) and the 3 1/2" casing. I hate that finger joint & pressed board shit. Painting a simple semi-gloss white since I ordered the windows with pre-finished white interior.

I'm a 22 year old college kid, I work side jobs as a mechanic and I have experience as a painter for rental apartments, but otherwise I'm a complete newb. My neighbor has a new office here in town and asked me to install some laminate flooring and I literally thought of this thread the moment she asked.

Never done anything with flooring at all, need some advice. It's a pretty big room, didn't have a change to measure anything just saw it today. Concrete floor with nothing on it. I think the laminate boards she purchased already have underlining underneath them... So do I just go snap this shit together? No need for underlining? No glue or anything? Thanks fellas

I haven't installed laminate flooring before, but usually it's either glued or installed "floating". Floating is cheaper. My office has it glued down and it didn't turn out very good. Glue is oozing out in lots of spots. Either way you choose, you'll want a really flat surface to do laminate. If it's pretty level and not any old thinset or whatever on the floor, then I'd just sweep it and start clicking together. Maybe a cheap padding to go down just to make it feel nice when walking on it. Doesn't sound like you'll need the moisture barrier pad.

YouTube is your friend, btw. There are a bunch of videos for every type of flooring install. Good luck!

That's pretty much it lol start on one wall and work backwards row by row using the leftover from your finish piece from each row as a starter for the next.
Try to have at least a 6" stagger so u don't line up your butt joints too much.
Don't cut them too tight I usually allow for at least 1/8" between flooring and wall so I don't have to fight it. Baseboard will cover gap :)
They usually snap together well but a block and a hammer will come in handy, just dont bugger up the tounge and grooves
If the slab is flat and level ur good to go but may need to level it if not

Thanks guys! Yeah been watching the youtube videos doesn't look too difficult at all.

On another note she also wants me to finish this gazebo she was having built in her yard. She's a family friend and I'm on summer break so figured I'd help out. I think the gazebo is pretty much finished except the shingles haven't been put on the roof. Took a look today as well. There was a roll of some kind of black cloth lining next to the wooden shingles. She has a compressor. Anyone have experience doing shingles?

I'm guessing I just use a staple gun to wrap the black cloth on top, then a nail gun to put the shingles on. Any methods behind this?

Sounds good with the underlayment just make sure u overlap rows by at least 3" and work from bottom up to ensure drainage plane
Should be a nail schedule/install info on bundles of shingles. The only nail gun recommended is a coil nailer loaded w roofing nails

Edit: Oh nvm u said wood shingles lol I think people use a 16 gauge finish nailer for that right? Or maybe some 10d galvanized nails outta a framer.
And I think u overlap the felt on top of shakes

    I'll play.

Framing in the wall for the man cave.

Casement window was leaking and caused enough water and organic material to seep into the room for mushrooms to appear.... 3 days after closing.

Stripped the wall to the block, and floor to the slab. Now building it back up. She's a slow project that's for sure.

Can that go directly onto the plywood? No need for another underlining beneath it? And is there any specific way to layer it over itself going up?

So it looks like I'm going to need a new ac unit. Going to replace the outside unit and the unit in the attic. Can anyone tell me what the minimum seer rating is needed for 2017 in Texas? Thanks

I actually just tackled (or more am still tackling) the flooring in my house. Its actually pretty easy once you play around with it a bit. Lowes (and im sure home depot) sells a "install kit" which has some spacers, block, and the puller for like 20 bucks. Main thing it to just make sure your first row is straight...and then it stays straight if you have to hit them together.

But really i just watched some youtube videos and then gave it ago and had it figured out pretty quick.

Read the directions for the flooring she got and it will tell you how to put it together. It will also tell you if you can use extra underlayment or if you need a vapor barrier or anything like that.
