I remember trying to teach my sister how to drive using a manual transmission, she sat down in the driver's seat and exclaimed "holycrap there are three pedals in here, whada sposed to do with that?"

I said "ok lesson over, get out"

For the record, I didn't so much teach my wife to drive manual, I tried, but it didn't go so well. In reality she took the keys after I went to sleep after mid-shift and taught herself. Of course this was 33 yrs ago and the truck was the one in my current avatar.

I was gonna teach my wife to drive a manual, but when she found out the truck was a '68 Ford 1 1/2 ton flatbed nicked named "the blue mule" she said "that's ok is not that high on the bucket list"

 

I think everyone should learn a clutch if at all available to them. Just so if that's all that's available in a situation they are able go/do what's needed. Once you get down the concept of how a clutch works, you can figure any of them out well enough to drive the vehicle. But I'm sure I'm just being unreasonable again.
