I have this same problem! (Ironically, my previous car was a Lexus IS, also - though I had an IS300 w/ a 5-speed.)

I assumed the hard shift was just the way that these trucks shifted. I thought maybe Toyota put in a transmission that was 'more substantial' than the truck required, so it shifted hard. My thought was reinforced when I noticed that it doesn't shift anywhere near as hard when the bed is loaded.

Where can one find the TSB?

I don't understand this. The dealership says they can't check the fluid level b/c the transmission is 'sealed?' How do they put the fluid in there in the first place? How do they ever change the fluid? This makes no sense... somebody please help me understand

Edit: I was writing my post as some of you posted about the sealed tranny issue. I understand better now.

I disagree... My truck has 22k miles on it and it still shifts hard into 2nd. Until this thread, I didn't know it could be a problem.

THANKS, hawk, for starting this thread. I'm going to be taking mine to the dealership soon!

sorry to hear about your problems. but the best thing to do is to but the ever loving shit out of the dealer till they fix the problem.

Well, I took it to the dealer again and they checked the transmission fluid. They said they unscrewed the check hole or whatever and it dripped out so they closed it back up. Basically my trans fluid is fine.

What's funny though...after I was done I went on a test drive with the mechanic to show him and it was gone. Since I've been back from the dealer it hasn't shift hard again. Whats also funny is as I drove more today on it it seemed to start shifting better and better.

I think I am just used to the Lexus shifting and this one will always not shift as smooth. I'm over it and decided I'm going to just enjoy my new truck and stop trying to find things wrong with it. I always do that and it bugs everyone around me, lol. This forum doesn't help that because people always post their problems then I think to myself when I get in the truck to look for them on mine, lol.

So What is the best first mod??? I already did the pop n' lock this evening...cool stuff.
