Well, being the teacher, I research everything I do. Yeah, I'm a nerd. My oil change is coming up, and I've been looking at every bit of info I can find about oil on the 'net. Pretty sure I'm going synthetic, probably 0-W-30, not totally sure about brand. I read a Ferrari-owner-retired-surgeon's article (dissertation?) about oil (found link somewhere in this forum), and I was blown away. Anyway, I did more homework today regarding the oil, as well as a cheap fix for tailgate theft. That's what I did for my beloved Taco today:) Damn, I love my truck

Overpaid for a bed mat from the dealership.

Hosed off my leaf springs because they were squeaking like crazy. They don't squeak anymore.

Drained front and rear diffs, and T-case. Holy sheet that front diff drain plug was on there GOOD!!! Liquid wrench and 3/8 wratchet for first half hour, breaker bar the next five minutes, finally broke free. This was definately the first time ANY of this has been done on this truck. Bought it at 65500, now at 66,000. Rear diff was kinda black, T case and Front diff looked pretty good. I know that the local dealer has at least checked the fill plugs on the T case and Rear diff, but NO WAY has that front differential ever been checked. And it was four ounces low. Dealer has it marked off every 15,000 as "inspected" with a checkmark. BS I would say on that. At least the Previous owner thought that the dealer was doing a good job on routine service checks, that "CERTIFIED TOYOTA SERVICE" stamp in maintenence log I guess doesnt mean anything unless the checkmarks actually mean they checked it....BS...Now Tranny and plugs and I will feel better about the truck maintenence.

Put on new front brake pads & new rotors. Wow, when I step on the pedal it feels like a new truck now! Nothin' like warped rotors on a Toyota! Not like that hasn't happend before!

Took out K&M filter, replaced with WIX. Why, you ask. Well, the K&N is less restrictive, but for the very same reason, it also lets more crap into your engine. Then there is that little problem with the oil clogging things downstream... The original owner installed the filter to save money. I'd rather have the extra insurance....Oh yeah, installed a clamp on my tailgate to discourage theft. Also let my pet alligator spend the night in my truck bed. He really likes it back there:D

Oh yeah, if you're in the SoCal area, look for the K&N on Craigslist. I will let it go for about $25.00....
