I went OEM... I have seen the OEM one run flawlessly for years. I liked the flush look of the G4, but decided to go with what I know.
One of my buddies had a couple of issues initially with his, and Toyota stood behind it.
My bed is bone dry too.

Yeah it seems each has its downfalls and the positive aspects. Thanks for the input

Which ever cover you decide on, don't expect it to be 100% water proof. I read good and bad experiences across the board.

Im kinda surprised with the lack of a clear favourite. They all seem to have their issues. Im not too worried about a little water though, just being able to lock, have 3 folds and hardtop.

OEM is cheaper and allows the use of the entire length of the tie down rails (or whatever they're called). Removal is easy with 1 person and the fact that it sits above the bed allows enough room for fit my coolers. No drilling for a drain tube either.

Only difficult part is finding someone who's selling w hardware and willing to swap the bed rail covers

Just read horrible things about the customer service with extang.
Pretty much took them out of the running for me.
I'm just not sure , other then the bed rails covers, what's the downside of the factory Tacoma tonneau, compared to the elite g4

If price is equal what one would you choose?

if anyone else is in this predicament, the OEM tonneau, is heavier, folds 3 times sits on top of the rails. The rail caps have to be cut . it is also easier to install.

The G4 folds 4 times, can be folded or opened from the back has a little more space when opened or folded up; takes away your use of the rails.

Both seem to have good locking mechanisms. I think they both are decent "looking" tonneau.

Ive seen the OEM version but not the fold a cover g4 elite.Just an FYI.

We've always had good luck with the Bak models. Say the MX4 for instance is currently the most popular hard folding cover out. Yes, just like any cover you will have negative and positive reviews but after installing one on my truck it did great. There was some water that got into the bed of the truck(my fault mostly since I didn't bother hooking up the drain tubes since my company swaps out my cover every couple of months). I prefer this over the G4 mainly because it will allow for nearly full bed access when folded up. Also, on the 3rd Gen it still allows you to use your deck rail system(sorry 2nd Gen).

If you have any questions please let me know.

Leaning towards the MX4. Likely to order one this week.
Any idea if the Toyota cargo divider will work under the MX4? Recall reading somewhere it might work by putting the attachment knobs on from the bottom.

The drop brackets will move the deck rail down slightly so there might be a problem with it working. I've heard of people making it work but haven't seen the exact set up. I'd be willing to get you a good deal on an MX4 if you want to try it out and do a review of how it works with the cargo divider. Just PM me if you are interested.

I have the MX4 and cargo divider. It will work with the knobs at the top and bottom, but they're easier to get to if you mount them on the bottom. The set-up works perfect. Get some good lithium grease for the side rails and you'll be golden.

Please tell me more about how the lithium is used on the side rails.

Just get a can of lithium spray grease from home depot and spray it in the side rails. The divider tends to bind if it isn't moved evenly (both sides at the same time). The grease really eliminates the binding and makes the divider manageable for one person.

Thanks to Zach I have a new MX4 coming Wednesday. Sweet deal too.

Thanks to deadgame I know how to make the Toyota bed divider work well with the cover so that's next up. One of my oldest friend's son works for a Toyota dealership and have a deal lined up on that next.

Never having owned a Toyota (lot of Honda's, BMW, etc.) and being without a truck for three years I've been impressed with my new truck and with a forum like this providing what looks like an endless stream of ideas on how to spend money. Having the nads to still make a 6MT with an excellent chassis to start makes Tacoma completely unique in this day and age.

The O.E.M. covers I've seen look like starting to warp. I went with the Extang Encore @ 899. delivered. everyone who see's it, wants one. There's a great video on installing a turd gen Taco.

MX4 delivered in two days as hoped which allowed me to install it just in time for locking and covering the family luggage for our annual trip to Wrigley Field for a couple games. Tomorrow will get the drain tubes hooked up and the tailgate seal installed (live at the end of 2.5 miles of dirt road).
Only light rain so far but first pressure wash came off without a drop. Didn't need to apply heavy pressure to the seams, just rinsed dust off so that was a good sign.
