What is this in my console

I need some help here, I was cleaning the truck and wiring some lights. I took the center console off and I noticed this box here. I have no idea what it is. I tried looking for some sort of marking but nothing. Im just curious to know. Its a 2012 trd sport dc short bed if that matters. Thanks guys

Definitely do the 400w anytime mod while you've got it torn open, it's easy. Adding the outlets in the cab is another worthwhile addition- I added two single outlets on the forward part of the passenger side so that I can plug in two battery chargers (I was using them to charge camera batteries) or my netbook or laptop or whatever.

ETA- if you add outlets to the center console you might consider making them quick disconnect in some fashion in case you need to pull your console again.

 

Wait... so where else would it be.. if... it's not under there... because there's nothing under mine.

And when I press the button to turn the inverter on... nothing happens. No power in the back.

 

Maybe you're missing it for some reason?

 

There's some weird shit with my rig. Previous owner was disabled war vet. Had a weird steering wheel setup for him to drive. As time goes on I find extremely peculiar things. Is there any way it wouldn't be included?

Don't all tacomas come with this?

 

It was my understanding that all trd tacos do. As far as weord placement or any reason as to why it might not be there is beyond me.

 

I'll get into it this week. Check for a plug or something else that would signify an inverter- or lack of.

They could have taken the inverter out of it or disconnected it for some reason.

I was post searching and saw you and some others debating inverters.

So my question, would I be better off finding an OEM replacement or going aftermarket? Not going to do anything other than charge phones or computers. Maybe run some
Other random small accessories? I would also be interested in doing in-cab outlets.

 

Guess that would depend on what you really wanted to use it for and how involved you wanted to get installing it. I would imagine a factory one would be more than fine for what you listed. I plan on using mine for about the same but liked the options it offered over the factory one. Plus it's already setup for 2 outlets.

 

Links to your install? Wiring is my Achilles heel. I can do it, it just feels overwhelming lol. Would rather keep it simple as possible. Obviously with the appropriate grounds etc etc

I'm looking to run a power wire through to said unit, flip a switch, and have two power outlets work.

 

I haven't installed mine yet. It's still under the rear seat waiting on me to do it. lol

 

Hahahah... I've been riding around with parts in my back seat for 3 months. No shame.

 

Well it does have the battery clips so it is usable technically. Haha
