mudding issue

I took my tacoma mudding today after school with some friends. After about 20 mins or so, I had to go. As I was leaving, I lost a very significant amount of power in my truck all the way until it wouldn't go anywhere anymore. I got out and popped the hood to see if anything obvious was wrong, but everything looked fine. I tried starting it a couple of times, but the motor would run really rough and then shut off. After about 10 minutes, I started the motor again, and it all seemed to run just fine. I just drove it home and it seemed to run perfectly. Any thoughts?

 

You may have sucked some water or mud into your intake or something

 

thats my guess as well. Anytime super moist air get's in it can cause issues.

 

I think i read somehting similar to this just a few days ago. something about his distributer cap coming un done or water in it..somthing along those line...sorry I cant really help much

 

Hmm okay. There was some water/mud on the airbox where the air filter is, so maybe that was what caused it. I did the elbow mod, so that hole on the side of the air box is open. Maybe the water got in through there? Is it anything to worry about right now since the truck seems to be running fine?

 

just be happy you didnt hydro lock it up

 

You should be ok, but i would just change the oil and check/change your air filters.

Hydro lock means you might neeed a new block. I hydro locked mine end result new engine i would remove plugs start it up and let all the stuff in there shoot out then change your oil a few times to make sure everything is ok.

Hydrolock is when water enters the cylinders and because water can't compress as the piston goes up something gives such as a connecting rod. It can be very very expensive to fix and is a major repair. This is one reason why you see vehicles with snorkels.

 

so how do guys go mudding and such without getting water in the pistons/hydro locking it up?

Yes. Just no the trucks limits with water. Dont go threw anything to deep to suck up water. And if you do hydro lock it do not try starting it if it dies, wait untill you can pull the plugs and get the water out and change the oil.
