Martin is fully involved with the production team and has already laid out the storyboard arc for the show. Everything that's happening is just about what he intends to happen in the books. The exception is that the show focuses in on the central characters, so lots of side and background stories of others are left by the wayside. But the overall narrative is supposed to be as Martin envisioned it.

 

Great penultimate episode!

I really can't believe the Night King now has a dragon in the ranks! That's insane! The wight creatures can be killed by dragon glass, Valyrian steel, and fire. So at the very least, maybe the last two dragons will be able to burn their zombie bro dragon to death. However, I have a feeling the detail of killing a commanding undead officer kills everyone/everything it has turned back to dead, will bear fruit in a future finale. I mean, we have to kind of assume the good guys (man) will win in the end right? Killing the Night King to eliminate the rest of the army (and dragon) has to be the trump card to be played in the end.... it just has to be!

Well, I am glad Jon managed to survive. Dany has witnessed first hand the stakes he is willing to go too, to keep his allies alive. She also knows by evidence of his multiple scars on his chest and abdomen, that he really was stabbed in the heart and brought back from the dead. She lost a child (dragon) but has gained something in Jon. I wonder if the revelation that she cannot bear children will have any impact on their possible union?

Arya and Sansa were only in the episode to bring their confrontation to a head. It was a good scene, but Arya is too quick to anger. Sansa's explanation was true and should be believable from Arya's perspective, but she appears to be blaming Sansa for everything that's happened since the trip to King's Landing when they were kids. I hope this is just all a play to draw out Littlefinger by Arya, but you never know.

Back to the main part of the episode, every scene beyond the Wall was fantastic. That zombie bear was crazy! I thought Thoros was going to die at that point, and that they would just bring his dead body back with them. But it became even crazier with ambushing the scout party and then getting attacked themselves. The ice lake scenes were intense, and scary as hell! If only the Hound didn't try and toss the bigger rock out there, maybe Dany and the dragons would have made it to the party, relatively unscathed!

 

I think Arya is playing along and knows littlefinger is trying to manipulate them. She ain't no dummy...

My only complaint with the bear and now dragon is that they missed an opportunity to have a wolf too. When I first saw the bear I said "finally, I knew they turned summer into a wight" but then it was just a random bear. It would be awesome to see a blue eyed wolf and they killed Summer back before Hodor...held the...door

 

My guess is ice.

 

Was the witches curse on Dani that she would never bear children, plain and simple, or was it something like "children of a man?"

Because that could be a loophole to bear children of Jon's because he's a "dragon.". Son of reagar "the last dragon."

 

That's right. I forgot about all the fancy shit she said. Jon is a "son" who rose (from the dead) in the west.

 

It's definitely a multiple watch episode. The Hound throwing the rock was funny as hell, when he knocked the wight's jaw off. " Dumb Cunt "

 

His conversation with Tormund was hilarious.
"What's a dick?"

"I bet you do."

The episode had a lot of good banter between characters on top of the crazy battle. Very good episode indeed

 

anybody seen the photos/theory about Longclaw opening it's eyes when John was coming out of the water? Didn't see it during the episode myself so curious if any of you did.
