So my Taco didn't come with a Homelink mirror. Can one be purchased and will the power plug on the back of my current mirror (with compass and auto dimming) plug right into the new mirror? What year models will fit my '17? Thinking a junk yard.

Don't know the answer but I do NOT like the home link.
If someone broke into my truck or if you leave your window down or doors unlocked. Bad guy can open your garage too because your truck key isn't require to make it operate.
    Unless theyve changed. Good luck!

If you install an aftermarket, it doesn't work unless the ignition is in the "ON" position.

You should be able to get any aftermarket unit you like, so long as it mounts on the standard bracket glued to the windshield. You can forgo the Toyota part, and just find an aftermarket one. Nothing cleaner than a factory looking install, and plus homelink has no batteries to replace and controls 3 doors!

I think you will be hard-pressed to find a plug and play one at the junkyard.

Only if an idiot installs it. I've had homelink from factory in 4 vehicles, and retrofitted in another vehicle. They all work off the ignition, including the tacoma. It's the battery powered garage door openers that are the problem.

I'm would place a bet that the wiring is there, but I can't confirm that. 2016/17 Limited & Pro have the mirror you are after (homelink / auto dimming / compass). But, you could make any homelink minor work (thousands on eBay), you'd probably just have to change the tab that's glued to the windshield and change the wiring connector.

Good luck getting that tab off the windshield, 9 times out of 9 it will break the windshield glass first. DO NOT TRY.

I'm pretty sure the Tacoma uses the mostly-standard teardrop shaped mount, a lot of other brands use the same one. I'd just spend the bucks on the right one from a Limited or another Toyota product that's plug and play.

Seems Gentex makes plug and play mirrors that plug right in. Might go that route! Thanx guys.

Gentex is who makes the mirrors for most OEMs. Amazon has the correct mirror for $500 (half of what the dealer charges). It's supposedly plug and play if you already have the self-dimming/compass mirror.

I purchased a Gentex one for my OR, and it was about 2 minutes to install. Unplug mirror that came in the truck, remove from mount, put new mirror on, and plug in. This is the one I got: Gentex GENK45AM4 Auto-Dimming Mirror with HomeLink and Compass

The only problem I had was programming it. It didn't like learning the programming from my universal remote and I don't own the original remote for the door anymore. I had to borrow my Father-in-Laws factory remote (he has the same door as I do) and the program it with my code.

I agree, programming homelink to a modern day rolling-code opener is an annoyance. First pair remote to car, then car to garage...makes no sense.

I suppose mine was made at the factory on a Friday or Monday because it doesn't require ignition on.

It's easy, just apply a small amount of heat to the tab with a butane torch, wait a few seconds for the heat to melt the glue, twist it and it'll come right off with ease. It's when you pull them they can break the windshield. I've done it multiple times, never broken a windshield.
But as you said it's a lot easier using the right mirror / tab, I was just giving the OP some cheaper / easier options.

Your Tacoma on a factory mirror, not dealer / distributer installed?

Gentex made the OEM one in my Tundra and wife's Subaru, I also retrofitted a Gentex in another vehicle. No sure if the Tacoma is Gentex, but it's a good product / manufacturer.

Nevermind the fact that most probably have a garage door opener in their vehicle that opens the garage without truck power anyway.

I only have the mirror. And I don't believe it works without the key turned on (but I don't really care either as my truck always spends the night in the garage). I can test to verify when I get home as everything is factory on my truck except for the actual mirror itself.

I used the mirror from a 2013 Subaru Outback. I wired it specifically to be on all the time, not because I care one way or the other about the garage door opener being on or off with the ignition on, but because I hate having to turn off the damn compass in the mirror every single time I turn the truck on. BTW, the Subaru mirror is a direct replacement and the compass shines through the mirror in red as opposed to the Toyota one that has a little window in the mirror for the compass in blue.

Let us know as I'm curious if it works with the truck off, it doesn't matter to me either way as it would be annoying to me to have to turn on the truck to open the garage if I were to leave in any other vehicle and leave my truck at home. (my truck sits outside though)
