Tire Recommendations

Nice, I just got back from Mavis Tire and they wanted $194 per tire mounted and balanced for the 265/75/16 Coops AT3.

$169 for the 235/85/16. Have to find those deals I guess.

 

And the Mavis guy also highly recommended that I stay away from the 235/85/16 because they were too thin and the truck wouldnt handle well and ride like crap

 

What makes them much much better

 

Indeed, it's all about finding those deals. Just checked the sears website for the exact same tires i bought. They are $171/tire now (compared to the 90 i paid).

If you aren't in a rush, just keep checking the various websites periodically until you find a whopper deal.

Also, I recommend buying just the tires and then having them installed/balanced at a small tire shop, probably on the less affluent side of town. Most big-name tires shops (discount, etc) will charge at least 20 or 25 to install and balance, whereas most small shops will do it for 10.

 

I ran the KO's in the same terrain that I run the KO2's. The 2's are smoother, pull better in loose terrain "better shoulder lug spacing", and have worn better with less road noise. The rubber of the KO2's also seems more sticky with better grip on wet roads. I hated the KO's in rain. The only thing I don't care for is weight of the KO2's....

My favorite tire ever was the 255/85 KM2's. They would always find a way to get grip.

 

Thanks I've used ko's very slippery in wet bur say KO2 are better?

 

From my personal experience the KO2's are much more confident on wet roads.

Tires for under $500 is do-able with these. I've never tried them but probably will once my Hankooks and Firestones wear out.

Not a bad looking tire but they are a "retread" of sorts. From the website: "TreadWright is a USA based manufacturer of high quality affordable remold tires". At about $520 with the coupon, I would still have to pay about $70 to mount and balance so I would be at $600 regardless. Just got a quote for $149 including all for both thee Coop AT3 and Yoko GO15. So I'm right back at that $600 mark. Thanks for the Rec though

 

Just pulled the trigger on these Hankook Dyna-Pro AT-m's. $443 with free shipping and a $60 rebate. Seems like a decent deal. Now just have to find a decent shop that will mount and balance on my freshly painted 01' 4Runner rims.

Regarding a shop, I'd just call around to any of the non-chain shops, especially the ones called "llanteria." 10 bucks a tire, 30 minutes in and out.

I know they are a good tire, only because I used to sell them. Since Firestone fired me, I told myself I would not buy another Firestone/Bridgestone product. The Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza was another good tire though

 

Bridgestone Dueler came in my 2012 4runner from the factory. They were POS comparing to Micheline I had on my Tacoma. Actually old Tacoma rode better than brand new 4Runner. After swapping them for KO2 4Runner bacame quite luxory.

Same thing with Bridgestone that came with Mazda5 I bought brand new. They were hard, noisy and were done at 45k miles. When I put Michelin on Mazda after 45k this car rode better than new.

Nissan also put Bridgestone in the factory on my wifes Versa Note. She is asking me when I can dump them for some set of Michelin. Nissan has only 3k miles but these factory tires make it run like crap.

For me it is not an urban legend that Brigdestone is cheap crap. It is my personal experience.

The local dealership charged me $80 to swap my tires on to my freshly painted wheels and didn't ding them at all. I know dealership techs vary in quality, but it could be an option.
