Just looked up CrossFit gym locations around me again and they actually added one to the city right next to me. :yay: And they open at 5:45 am, so I would be able to workout when I get in from work. Depending on price, I am going to try to join up.

As for this morning's workout, this is what a buddy of mine altered for me to be able to do at home. (Based off his workout yesterda
    y)

    5 rounds for time
    80 double unders
    28 squats*
    28 box jumps

*Squats were subbed in for med ball cleans b/c I was looking for something without equipment. But I made it by the store and picked up one so I think I will do them instead if I have time to watch the video and feel confident I have the form down.

I'll post my time up here if yall promise not to give me a hard time. It's been a LONG time since I got a serious workout in, and this is my 1st shot at CrossFit. I've seen/heard results, so I am pretty confident it's going to hurt like hell. Luckily, I kind of dig the pain :D

If you dig the pain then you are already a dedicated crossfitter!

Good luck with that work out that is going to be a good one. And good luck with the double unders. Those have been the cause of much frustration for many. They have certainly pissed me off a time or two.

Thanks. That's the one I'm worried most about  Luckily, I'm stubborn so it may take me all morning, but I will finish.

Nice! Make sure on the med ball cleans you hold the ball with your fingertips, let it float up, and don't curl it-meaning keep the laces facing away from you the whole time. Mind your posterior chain, chest out, heels flat, and shrug!

Watched the video and realized two things:
    1. I got the wrong type of medicine ball (it has handles)
    2. I wasn't comfortable attempting the form without guidance and a bad back.

    So....

I realized my friend must be trying to kill me! Couldn't make it through all 5 sets, but didn't quit after 1 like my legs wanted me to.

    Time - 19:15

    3 sets, 80/28/28

    • quick regular jump rope (b/c my arms wouldn't move fast enough for the double unders; 40 - 50 seconds per set)
    • squats
      [*]box jumps

I'm feeling the burn, so something was accomplished. I'm a bit let down that I wasn't able to make all 5 sets, but considering how many years it has been since I have really pushed myself, I am partially pleased.

The real challenge for me is to get back out there tomorrow and do some more!
(Oh, and don't beat me up too bad for modifying my workout, I'm already kicking myself in the ass!)

Thanks for the tips! I'll get the form down I'm sure- just need practice and a proper medicine ball.

As you probably already know, make sure you stay hydrated and increase it while you acclimate to Crossfit. Also ensure your proper nutrition. Don't need to be getting a visit from Uncle Rhabdo. Uncle Pukie is all good

Nothing wrong w/ modifying a workout, especially since you're doing it w/ limited equipment.
Now, for the jump rope; If you sub the double unders for singles, they're usually done in a 1:3 ration. So, for every double under you sub, do 3 singles. So your workout would've been 240 jump ropes.
A tip for the double unders too. Keep a straight back. (no hunching over.. the rope has to travel further this way). And dont forget a bigger jump. Although quick arms help, a straight back and bigger jump help out more imo.

Wow, that's something I definitely don't want a piece of!

I think it was my jump that probably screwed me up on these. Back is pretty straight. I have always done a quick feet version of jump rope, fast but barely get off the ground. so in all actually, I only got in 1 set of jump ropes but 3 of the other 2. I gotta work on this stuff! Thanks for letting me know the ratio.

OK guys, crash time- working again tonight. I greatly appreciate the advice! :)

Welcome to crossfit! There is nothing like it and nothing more effective. Endurance will come with time. Double unders will always frustrate. You will get your ass kicked every time with each workout and the soreness will take a long time to go away. :)

I hate double unders. They blow. DO NOT try backwards double unders, you WILL screw up and when you do it WILL smack you in the face........Ask me how I know :anonymous:

Thanks... that is so encouraging! :D If I'm not sore and getting my ass kicked working out, it just doesn't seem effective. I think it's because of my high school coach... I am hoping to build up some endurance and be able to put up better times/numbers. Good news though- I woke up sore!

so what are you guys seeing for results. You have better muscle tone, or cardio or do you see some fat loss? How long have you been doing it?

Ive been looking into it. Haven't actually done it yet tho.

I've seen all those results and have only done it for 5 months. Just do it, you will never regret it!

I have noticed I have better endurance, and more toneness. My shoulders are a lot more solid since I have been doing it. I have been doing it for about 4 months now.
