How To: Spark Plug Change (1 GR-FE)

Thanks OP I used this today, did my plugs and air filter while I was at it . It didn't take long (maybe an hour and half?) , it was my first time doing plugs on my truck . Pretty easy actually , I took my time and drank beer while doing it . I used antisize and also dialectic grease on the boots also.

Took my about 90 mins to do this today. Pretty straightforward process.

At 50,000 miles the old NGKs were gapped between .055 and .060 while the Densos were pretty much all at .052. I replaced them all with OEM Densos.

 

So I did my plugs this morning and it went pretty smooth. I did have a bit of an issue getting the driver's side front coil connector loose, but other than that it was fairly easy. Thanks Chris!

From approx. 76k to 193k I had denso iridium plugs. removal gap was .046 avg for all 6 plugs. Forgot how much a pain in the ass the driver side was compared to pass side.
Replaced with Denso Plat as that was the cheapest Napa had in stock.

Needed a 1/2 drive to remove the old plugs that I installed with nickel anti seize.

 

imagine people that have the Supercharger....

 

OTC at AutoZone for those who might not have a dealer near them. Truck runs great on these.

Were all .070-.080 gap....
#5 had this gooey crap.
They were all almost seized and rusted

Should I replace the wires at the same time? Im pretty far past my due date so guessing it would be wise, but I haven't seen any mention of it. Thanks!

 

You don't have to worry about wires. 2008 Tacomas are coil on plug.

 

Anyone know what the difference between these 2 are? Both say they fit our tacomas but not sure why one is cheaper than the other

Well, for those in the Houston area, I just picked up the Denso spark plugs for $3/piece at Don McGill Toyota. Pretty good deal on Oem plugs and actually cheaper than the auto parts stores

 

I got OEM densos from advance auto here in Wilkes, NC for 4.50 a piece. Tackled the job in about 45 minutes and took a 5 minutes break in the middle so I feel like I made good time. Very easy, even with the tight spots on the driver side. My plugs all came out with a gap pretty much deal on .060 for all and a little rust colored on the threads. Bear with me and no bashing, but it's the first spark plug change she's has since new at 117,000 miles. Haven't drove her since I changed them because I drive my 2010 Camry during the work week but just figured I'd share my experience. For anyone who hasn't changed spark plugs before, but wants to save money and learn a little bit and do them yourself, it's actually an easy vehicle to do them on IMHO. Thanks for the write-up Chris, helped me in more ways then one in completely this job easily and correctly!

But one thing I was I guess impressed by is the word for it, the plugs has a slight rust like color on the threads and the gap was bigger, but the faintness of the thread color and the electrode was still pretty flat, they honestly still looked mostly almost like new with 117,000 miles and some change on them.

 

I'm assuming over 100k for sure (used truck)
