i have an 06 tacoma. lifted about 3inches and got an aligment 3 weeks ago. just pick up my wheels and tires 3 days ago. 295-65-18 with wrangler duratracs all terrian and now my steering has quit a bit of shimmy in it. on the highway or city u can really feel the steering wheel moving. does this mean i need steering stabilzer shocks or does it mean i need to realign again. any suggestion or input would really help. thanks

steering stabilizer shocks are a bandaid fix for an underlying problem. avoid them at all cost.

First go out with a tire gauge and set you tires at 32PSI. Tire shops often seem to overinflate mine and it makes the steering all squirrely.

As well as cause other steering components to prematurely wear dues to the increased resistance.

If you are using it to hide a problem, yes, it's bad.

If everything is kosher, a steering stabilizer is unnecessary on road but it can be a nice addition off road because it helps control bump steer.

the ifs gearbox dont have much bumpsteer feedback anyways.. ps you would have to have some good fab skill to mount a steering stabilizer on an ifs truck..

Fixed it for you- 32PSI is a guess. Chalk line test beats a specific PSI any day. Specially with aftermarket tires.

Good point. I've never looked into steering stabilizers for a Tacoma because I've never felt I needed one. I was speaking generically I guess. I had one on my Bronco and it was nice off road. It had a IFS and a simple bolt on stabilizer. It was a pretty unique IFS though. I don't know if you've ever seen that weird scissor type IFS they had on those last generation Broncos. I think the Rangers had it too.

Another thing, Discount Tire set my 285's at 45 psi! I'm running them in the low 30's right now. It was a noticeable difference at speed. I've been meaning to do the chalk test but haven't gotten around to it yet.

Yep, you know it. Strange system it was. It was kinda cool in theory but like any system, it had its drawbacks. I had the Dana 44 too but I'm pretty sure it wasn't HD. When I lifted it and put on the extended length radius arms, I got to know it all too well. You had to be real careful where you mounted the radius arm brackets on the frame because each side of the axle could move a little forward or back independently. Obviously you wouldn't want one front tire farther forward than the other.
