Longer wheel studs, is it a bitch?

Yo! I have a 1998 Tacoma 4X4 with some 35" mudding tires on it. The front left tire keeps rubbing on the frame of the car whenever I turn to the left. Spacers seem like the best option because I want to keep the mud tires on. I got two inch spacers but cannot thread down the bolts all the way. I'm wondering if anyone has put longer wheel studs on their trucks, and how extensive of a process it will be?

I think you would have to pull the hubs from the front assembly, and the axle shafts from the brake backing plate on the rear to get studs out/in. I could be wrong but last time I considered it that was how I talked myself out of it. Not to terrible of a job, good time to do bearings/seals if you havent ever done them.

I've done it without pulling hubs or axles. It's a PITA and you need an impact gun to do it. Handfull of thick washers and regular nuts. Grease in between 3 or 4 washers to act like a bearing effect to help pull them in.

I believe you can just take off the caliper and rotor and push them out one by one (might have to use a puller from the back side) and then like @mechanicjon said pull them back in

Can you hammer them out from the front or will it damage the knuckle?

Big hammer and knock them out. Just don't hit the center hub ring.

Me too, my aluminum wheels have a bit thicker of a hub surface so I had to get them to get more bite.

i replaced mine without removing anything. i went to parts store and hand picked some out that were a little longer. pulled them in with an impact and washers. some of them were tighter than id like so i used a carbide burr and did a once around on the stud hole.

This tool is awesome. Not a 'use everyday' item but will save you time from beating the crap out of the stud to set it into the hub.
Use an old lug nut if you have one laying around.

    Good luck.

I installed the lexus studs a while back too. But wished i would've gone with bolt on spacers (with et lugs if needed). But i ended up using one of those ball joint presses to press mine in. A lit harder to juggle that contraption tho but it was what i had on hand without having to order that special stud puller which i woulda had to wait on shipping for. Plus it just felt better knowing they were pressed in and not pulled. Not saying pulling is detrimental to the studs, but pulling them by the threads seems worse to me than pressing them in. I guess they can hold up to that though. idk if they even make an easy tool for pressing them in tho. The ball joint press was a joke. Ha. But it worked.

I'd also suggest using a ratchet or breaker bar to pull them. Although I'm sure others have used an impact many a time without hiccup, I've seen it end badly once. If your old lug nut youre using to pull has any imperfections on the threads, it could lead to heating up and seizing on the stud, then, snap. Stud wasted.
