WTH is this and how do I get rid of it?

This is a picture of the clear vinyl film protecting the front of the driver's side rear fender flare on my '15.

See the doodoo brown residue under the edge? I have it on both sides. Anyone else have this and how did you get rid of it?

Looks like a rock protector. Like a clear bra on a hood.

 

Yes, the issue is the brown stuff under the film.

 

I saw this while I lived in the south... it is mildew that is building under the clear protector. I have seen people remove the sticker and replace (with a new one) after cleaning

 

I would go with this analogy and say it is mold. Your 15 should still be under warranty take it to dealer should not be getting mold under or around protector.

 

Thanks for the replies. I guess mold from the humidity here in the south is better than frame rust from road salts up north. I'll bring it up at the next service.

 

I have the same issue on mine. Humidity seems to make sense. Not sure what to do about it and I imagine the dealer will not care if I brought it to them

 

Thinking the same thing. I think I'd rather just remove the vinyl and clean it up then deal with whatever scratches may come if the stealership won't do anything about it.

 

Try a clay bar and see what that does. I had crud around the edges too from brake dust and other contaminants from our canadian winters.

My thoughts exactly. It's not worth the battle with the dealership. They'll probably try and tell me my warranty is voided because of my lift

My lift probably caused the mold..

 

Its dirt.
To get rid of it you need to remove the clear film.

 

It is dirt that has gotten under the edge of the film.
If you don't want to take it back to the dealer or they say there is nothing they can do, below is the fix!

To remove: using a small break away razor knife, snap off so you have a new edge or just start with a new blade.

Using a steady hand cut along the film beyond the dirt [you are not going to try to cut through the film] and score a line along the entire edge so you will have a nice crisp new line when finished.

Gently get under an area and pull on the film, it should just tear away where you scored the line. If it doesn't tear away find the line and score a little deeper and try again.

After you have remove the film use a mild detergent to remove the dirt, if it feels a little sticky from the film use goo gone or alcohol to clean the area.

Finally add a new coat of paste wax to seal the paint.

I have used this technic on my clear bra that I have installed on my Avalon. My guy that installed the film told me how to do it. Works like a charm.
