Received my Blackvue DR490-2ch dash cam I ordered and need some assistance on the install on my '17 DCSB. I am using the Power Magic Pro hard-wiring system. I'm not very savvy when it comes to electrical installs, but don't want to pay someone when it seems fairly quick and easy.

Few questions, what fuses should I connect the wires to? Did anyone use a fuse tap to complete this-- I heard the fuse box won't close back if this is used? Where did you attach the ground wire?

Any type of help is appreciated and pictures of a completed install would also be helpful. Thanks!

I'm not sure how different the '17 is from the '13 but I used a proper fuse tap. I used the 20 amp power door lock fuse for constant hot and the 15 amp ACC fuse for switched hot. On the '13 there's a ground wire connection on the bottom of the steering column. That's what I used.

I have the same setup. So far it's been great. I did have to move it as I originally mounted it on the left side behind the mirror but the mirror hit it. So I swapped to the right side behind the mirror. Also easier to access the memory card. The only thing I dislike is that it goes into parking mode by the truck sitting still for a few minutes, not the ignition shutting off. So in traffic jams or a drive thru it will switch to parking mode. And it takes a little driving to get it to switch from parking to normal mode. It still works just records it as a parking incident. Which could eventually fill up the memory card. Unless you delete them from time to time.

I looked up your manual for you - you need both a constant 12V source, and a switched 12V source - so you need two fuse taps. Your device is only using 1 A from either line, up to 2 A max from either line.

For a switched 12V source, you can use one of the window fuses (I used the rear right for mine) - those are only on (at least in the fuse box) when the vehicle is on. You'll need to test other fuses for find a constant 12V source, or just run a wire to the radio's 12V constant or run a wire to the battery. I do not recommend tapping any fuse of any critical safety electronics like the ABS, or any of the vehicle assist electronics.

Appreciate the help! Is it safe to not use a fuse tap and to just wrap the wires around the fuse? I saw some install videos that did it that way, but seems like the fuse tap is the way to go from what others have said. I just don't think the fuse box cover will shut with the fuse tap... if it doesn't, is that alright?

    Hey klavender1,
Isn't the ACC a 7.5amp, or would that make any difference? I am using the add-a-fuse, so I would use the original fuse in the front, right? How do I know what fuse to put on the backside, would a 10amp fuse be enough? I have a 2012 and can't seem to get the PMP working.

I used the add-a-fuse and just used the fuse that was already there.
