Installed the PAL8550 with the help of my buddy J-rod.
Overall it was a very easy install.
If need any help or have any questions, let me know.

    Tailgate was a t30 bit
Seat Belt Bolt was 14mm socket.
    Camera and Handle: 10mm socket.

That was the only tools needed.

Now thats its all in do you wish you went with just manual lock based on loud noise everyone complains about? Would you do anything different? Im getting ready to order either pop n lock manual or this setup. I figured this setup leaves you a backup if one breaks since there known for being cheap.

Thanks for write up ill be using this.

The loudness doesn't bother me. I kinda like it cause I can tell when i have unlocked my passenger doors now. lol.

Yes that is why i went with this setup, just in case I need that key. I am happy with it thus far

Thanks. Just heard back from their customer service. According to "pam" they now have upgraded plastic and metal parts on the product that greatly increases reliability. If you order from their site you get this product and not old shelf product. Just ordered my 8540 combo for around 180$

I'm so glad I came across this post. I just did a search on Amazon and score this $61.20 with Prime shipping. Looking forward to the upgrade. I went back to check on it to see if they were still selling for the same price to share with you guys and I guess it went back up to $154.xx.

Be careful with Amazon pop n lock does not honer any warranty with them and do not garuntee your getting their redesigned new product with less defects.

With that said i just paid 180 for mine and another 20$ for regular shipping which is a joke so i was 201$ out the door with this same setup but in black. So thats a hellova deal

Thanks for the heads up. Is there a way to tell whether you got a old or new redesign? With my luck- it'll be when I have something important in there that I'll need to get to when it takes a crap. Live and learn I guess.

I dont know. But you have a backup if one fails i assume since you have manual and auto. Thats why i went with that. When i contacted my local toyota dealer the parts guy said he has sold hundreds and not one return or complaint. So majority i assume dont fail. I put this off for three years cause i feel product is inferior but there is just no other option so i finally pulled trigger. Ill be doing instal next week with my new bakflip mx4 that also has crummy reviews on here but 5 stars everywhere else

Yea- I was planning on holding out, but I couldn't pass up the price. Another thing that I likes was that it was color matched to the truck. Don't understand how the trucks looks awesome and then you see this cheap looking handle that doesn't lock. I've been looking at some covers also- just haven't pulled a trigger on any specific brand/model.

    Nice write up!
I have the 5400 installed and have had the 8525 add on kit sitting on a shelf for nearly a year waiting to be installed... Then a few months ago my 5400 broke at the mounting points. Found a new unused 5400 privately for $50 so doing the whole kit & caboodle tomorrow!

The only thing I'm unsure of...
I want to it to unlock with 2 presses of the fob like pax door. Does that simply mean I splice into pax side wires? Is that how yours works?

    Thanks,
    Chris

FYI someone with a SWB better jump on this! Thought I'd check since I see that some people get awesome deals occasionally on Amazon with the pop & locks
