    Havent had a problem with my smittybilt. And its almost 2 years old. The synthetic line is good if you actually take care of it. Bought it for 450 and its saved my ass 3 times when ive been by myself and out of service. Its been worth it. Warns are nice and all but overpriced imo. Take care of your shit though and it'll take care if you. Do you have a winch on your truck? That'll be the first purchase along with a bumper on any offroad vehicle I build from here on out.

    Could be just luck of the draw with Smitty. I do have a winch, not installed, but I do own one. Warn M8000, Masterpull Synthetic Winch Line and a few goodies from Factor 55 :stirthepot:

    Use a snatch block. Doubles the pulling power.

    My smitty built XRC8 bent my bumper doing a 200' pull. And my truck weighs more than you(near 5900 loaded at one point). 8000lbs is plenty.

    Half the reviews are people just saying "I got an okay winch for half the price of a Warn"

    I don't doubt Smitty's ability to build a winch, it's the longevity I worry about. Usage on not only recoveries, but also moving stuff, like logs or trees that have fallen.

    The M8000 should be enough for myself unless I get bogged down to frame in mud. I guess only time will tell if the 8000 is fine.

    1st thing to do with a smitty is take it apart, change the grease in it. Seal up the solenoid. Then, its a pretty nice winch.

    Getting buried like that and pulling out via winch can cause other issue. Like i said. My bumper bent.

    Exactly what I've heard with those, just straight out of the box change the grease. But first thing I'm getting is a new snatch block, not sure if my old one is still in my possession or elsewhere

    Installed my winch last night, was fairly straight forward except we had to mess around with the damn box. Ended up taking some things not needed off the box and shoving it in the side of the bumper and then pushing the winch to line up with the holes.




    Other than that little issue it went on perfectly. I've had the blue fairlead on for a little bit, it was @bryanbyers28 old one that he didn't need so I snagged it and painted it to match the Kings. I also have D-rings that I have painted the same and will install them tonight probably.

    I won't be doing in cab controls because that takes too much effort. I'll look into doing a wireless remote however and call it a day. Just need to get all the proper equipment now i.e tree saver, better snatch block, etc.




    Also I found a local selling his OBA setup for cheap, so I snagged that but it won't be installed for a little bit, gotta figure out the plumbing and all that good stuff. Other than that just waiting on Pelfreybilt to finish their rear bumpers and I'll start working on the things required for that. Frame plates, full size spare tire, either gas cans or possibly CO2 if I go that route.

    Hopefully when it gets cooler around here I'll be doing more camping/wheeling but with my leg breaking it's put a hamper even on lake camping. But should be 100% in another 2 weeks!

    Looks good! Guess I missed the breaking a leg deal. That can definitely hinder ya from getting out.

    Thanks! I guess I forgot to post that in here. The day after I graduated I jumped into a lake off a boat into shallow water and broke my fibula. Had 4 weeks in a walking boot and yesterday was my last dr. appointment, he said "it's healing great, just wear an ankle brace for 2 weeks then go cold turkey. Oh and don't be jumping off boats any time soon" haha. So hopefully in 2 weeks I'll be back to camping and all that jazz
