Help Me Figure Out What is Rattling In My Truck - Please

OK, TW noise experts, I've got one for you. Whenever I go over a bump or really rough road I hear something that sounds like my passenger seat rattling. So, without bothering my TW brethren, I had my wife take a short road trip with me. She was sitting in the front passenger seat and we went over the same rough roads and bumps and heard the rattle. It was not the passenger seat. So, I checked my jack under the rear set and tightened it down some. That didn't fix it either. It literally sounds like a loose seat or something but it's not. My wife thinks it is the rear door panel but it is not loose. It is also not the rear seat head rests. Like any noise, now that I know it's there it is driving me crazy. Go figure...

Has anyone experienced this? If so, what the heck is it? Any ideas? I have not recorded it yet but that may be next. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

 

Get used to it. I have the same thing and I've learned to just ignore it.

The noise comes and goes.

 

Are the Rear Seatbelts hooked into those little clips as they can bounce around and give a rattle sound?

 

Also this. I had two different rattling noises. This took care of one.

 

Now I have not checked that. I will do that tomorrow. Good idea but it really sounds like a BIG rattle like a seat shaking.

 

Oh, dude, no way.... I cannot get used to this noise! LOL

 

It sounds like the seat is rattling but it isn't. I've heard several complaints about it.

 

Seriously, that is exactly how it sounds and my wife is about to lose her mind when she is riding in it.

 

I had a strange rattle coming from the passenger side. Turns out it was my spline key for the lug nuts. Sitting in the glove box rolling around.

 

Thanks! I'm certain mine is coming from the rear seat area now that I have ruled out the passenger seat. It's only doing it over really rough roads but it has been impossible to pin down. Finding an interior noise will drive you crazy, hence the reason I'm seeking help from hopefully some poor soul that has been there done that...

 

Check your spare tire and see if it's a little loose. I had some rattling after I had a flat and had to use my spare. Heard it rattle for a day or two and I could not figure it out. Then I remembered that the tire shop remounted my spare. After checking, I found that they didn't tighten it down properly. It jiggled over bumps and rough roads. I retightened it and rattling went away. Give that a shot...

 

Take everything out of the back compartments including Jack, jack handle, empty door compartments and hook all seatbelts together. Also chech headrests. Give that a drive to eliminate if its any of them. If noise is gone or not you've narrowed it down.

Edit: take jack n handle with you tho...

My passenger seat (front) headrest was rattling over bumps. I thought it was in the b-pillar seat belt hanger area. My daughter identified the real rattle when she was in the passenger seat. "Dad, it's the headrest." Sure enough it was. For whatever reason, swapping driver/passenger headrests shut that rattle up. Maybe something easy to check by swapping sides. Good luck. Rattles suck!

 

Mine was the 1/4" ratchet and socket I had thrown in the back door cup holder to take the bed cover off if I needed to. Drove me nuts till I figured it out

 

Were any windows down? I just fixed this issue in my truck. Any time the rear windows were down there would be a rattle. It was the little trim/weather strip piece that the window rolls up into.

Also do you have sunglasses in the holder? That's where I get rattles all the time haha

 

This sounds like it could be it. To me it sounds like a seat rattling but yet when someone is in it it doesn't. Thanks, it sounds like I've got several great ideas to try. Gotta love TW!
