yeahh that estimate is rather off... unless its going to Pebble Beach or your building it to be pro street drag/show truck. thats a wack ass quote getting near 100k especially body swap on a roller.. just my 2 cents. I have several years of resto mod builds 20-25% of that is profit alone. dont mean to be rude but i hate seeing people get robbed on stuff like that especially on 50' (3100 ?)

    Thanks Capt.

Oh no, I am not as stupid as the body shop thinks. I told them I would get the parts I want and then they would assemble it and paint. The rolling chassis is the cheapest thing I found on the internet to get me to my end goal and the parts are from LMC and are brand new. I did it that way so I wouldnt have to worry about them charging me just as much to sand a fender that may have a nice thick slab of bondo on it. The only thing that I couldnt do was the body work on the cab. I probably could do all of it myself and then take it to them to finish the body work but even then its going to cost close to $10k for paint and body work to finish it. Ive learned that because they are a professional shop they like to charge what they want to make a profit. They have to eat too but I am not paying for a steak dinner.

But yes its a 3100 and it was given to me by my father in law when me and my wife were still dating so it has some sentimental value to it

I was going to suggest exactly that, but some folks like to roll their own. In the past, some folks have kinda looked down their noses at me, with regard to my 40, saying I didn't build it myself. To which I always say, "you're damn right I didn't, I just wrote the check!", which cheeses them off even more. My feeling has always been that unless you own a shop doing restorations, the effort is always a money loser, especially after your time is factored in. Now if restoring cars is your hobby, that changes the math a bit, but it's still time. And frankly, I don't have the skills to do what the dude that restored my 40 has. I've made some changes to it since getting it, and do the maintenance myself, but letting the other guy do the restoration was definitely the best way.

ETA: I was hunting and pecking while you were mentioning the sentimental stuff. Definitely a different situation. My FIL has never given me anything, other than a check for $1K to help pay for our wedding, three days after it happened.

Oh trust me I know. It just makes me sick that my truck is to the point where it's worth nothing now. It was a running and driving truck when I took it to him but now it just sits in my garage with no interior and no running drive train.

thats not a too bad of a set up right there, besides the 4l60e is a ..well lets just say cant hang for shit to be nice lol. you can put 20k in that 60e and pop it at 500hp or put a 4l80e from junkyard w 200-300k on it an run 1000hp all day long.. been there done that. or you can buy rebuilt an upgraded an never think twice about it for like 5k. but it may be more practial to find one with stock set up and upgrade and transfer some parts from the bangged up one so you can still keep the feel with sentimental without all the stress

Oh yea trust me I would love to just swap the 4l60e with an 80e but that could be a later down the road thing if I went with that rolling chassis. This way I wouldnt have to worry about anything under the truck. Then I just need to put the body together.
