For all you folks with aftermarket lifts, how are they handling your warranty with the leak? Any issues? Also what kind of howling are people talking about? Im at 1500 miles now and I dont hear anything

Got to the dealer, went to look at my truck before going in. Hasn't been washed and the differential is still weeping.

I walk in and the service advisor gleefully tells me they have my white Tacoma all ready to go.

My Tacoma is silver. This will be fun.

Took my '16 in for an oil change, Entune update, and TC1601 (Transmission update). They ordered parts for my rear differential and will call me when parts arrive for the fix.

Toyota did not give me any crap for my lift. It is unrelated to the rear diff leaking.

So I had them look at mine during my 10k. They said it was fine and retorqued the bolts. It was on the list at that time. Now its at ~11k (I cleaned it after they retorqued it) and theres two pretty small (I think) seep marks. I checked and now its not listing my truck as being under that recall. Is that going to be a problem? Pretty sure mine is going to get worse.

Weeping is weeping, and if it's weeping after they retorqued then it's going to keep on weeping. I'd take it back and get it on record that it apparently wasn't fine the first time.

Photos? Gear oil is nasty stuff to clean up and even a slight remaining film can attract dust/dirt and look far worse than it really is. Spray it with brake cleaner to degrease it, then continue to monitor it.

It is no longer on "the list" as the dealer reported it as corrected...

My dealer told me when they get the parts, it will take 3.5 hours to fix. My truck is getting close to front of the line.

Just had mine in for the repair. Dropped of Friday since I was going out of town and repair was done Monday. Haven't crawled under the truck yet to see how it looks... will do that tonight. But, all the paperwork looks in line, so here's to hoping. I was the second in line at the dealership I now go to.

For what it's worth, and this was odd, but my transmission is running cooler now even though I was just a normal "fluid not that low" and replaced the gasket and all the other components. Seemed odd, but has anyone else seen that on theirs?

    **UPDATE**
It's back to normal... guess it was just a cool morning and it did not get too hot. Was back to regular this afternoon.

My dealership called today, said they had my parts in, scheduled me tomorrow at 10am. Said it should only take them about 3 hours. Sounds like they have it down to a science at this point.

Just wanted to chime in here....

Took my Tacoma to the dealer for Regular service (43k Miles), ended up having a severe diff leak for the recall and the Vehicle was held. Ended up taking 12 weeks for repair and I was placed on the "Priority list" for replacement parts (I work with Toyota, pulled strings). Crazy wait time for parts is due to supplier shortage and seems like the Gasket is the worst offender. Also seems like if you aren't on the "List" you're looking at 4 month minimum for repair.

Condolences go out to anyone who had to endure this absolute disaster from Toyota.

**NOTE-Toyota will most definitely lie and tell you parts will come in a "Few days, 7 days, 10 Days." It's an endless cycle, never accurate, and will leave you hopelessly waiting on your truck for Weeks on end with literally no update other than" waiting on parts".

My 2016 2wd Sport has been "impounded" at the dealership since 7/29/17. I spoke to the owner of the dealership yesterday and he got me a 2017 SR5 Tacoma to drive instead of the Nissan Frontier I had. No one can tell me when the parts will be in and the dealership has 95 Tacomas in their fenced in yard to get the repair completed. I filed a claim with Toyota customer care and emailed the CEO of Toyota North America yesterday. In North Carolina the lemon law provides protection for cars that have been "out of service for 20, or more, days in a 12 month period. Waiting on hold to speak to my case worker now at Toyota. I've requested that Toyota pay my truck payment and taxes while I can't operate the vehicle. I know they won't do that, but it's worth a try. I am also asking them to give me an "even" trade for my 2016; replacing it with a new 2017. A man can dream, right?

Toyota rep told me that all the needed parts are shipping in the next few days and the backlog will close as soon the dealers can work through that. Toyota will not offer me anything else since this is a "recall issue and not a warranty repair that they failed to correct". The lemon law doesn't apply to this issue per Toyota. A big old fuck off from them. Looks like I have purchased my last Toyota.

Sometimes I wish I had kept my 2015 instead of trading it 9 months after buying it for the new Tacoma.
