I imagine that's the best way to sell more trucks and get more service visits.

Sucks that you 3rd gen guys become best friends with service centers and need to friends the managers. Last place I want to be after new vehicle purchase unless it's an oil change.

Your post reeks of jealousy. You do understand that the forums are a small subset of (vocal) owners and enthusiasts, not representative of the whole, right? Or are you just mad, bro?

Likely just mad bro. Personally I like the aesthetic of the second gens more and am happy with what I have, but at the same time the third gens do have some cool stuff and the look is growing on me. For those with third gens, no need to entertain folks who are just looking to bash. It does seem with these new gens that they can be very hit or miss when they roll out of the factory with the new smarter drive train as that design IMO leaves a lot of room for inconsistencies and added misinterpretation of the systems until the truck is broken in. Im sure with the history the new gens have had so far, that this incident will be corrected without much issue hopefully.

I came up on forums like HondaPrelude.com, Honda-tech.com, ClubRSX.com and 8thCivic.com (to name a few). ....so I'm used to haters who are gonna hate. I just hoped that by my mid 30's, buying a TRUCK, I wouldn't find as much immaturity on the related forums. But there are haters everywhere, I suppose.

This forum is a plethora of information and an amazing resource. Dare I say that having such a good community actually helps to sell the truck to me....

So I suppose I'll have to take the bad with the good. Lots of "crap" to sift through here, but it's worth it and there is a ton of good info.

I haven't bought yet, but I've spent hours and hours and hours of my evenings looking at these forums

Agreed man and I treasure this forum for the same reasons as it really is one of the best libraries of info. Top of that, it isn't plagued by all these ads and crap that almost every other forum has which can make it painful to navigate. The third gens on here have a decent amount of troubles that have individual threads documenting that, some members might develop some negative passion about these issues which could lead them to their open hatred for this gen. To me, there is a lot of stuff that was implemented in this gen that is trying to get Toyota up to speed with new tech.

Like anything else there will be growing pains and with this sort of smart technology, it takes consistent track records and situations such as the OP to prove what items NEED to be consistent and such for the future. To a degree, the third gen guys are still test subjects for a hopefully much better product in the long run. Others may not appreciate what this gen is designed to achieve, but without risk you get no reward.

Where is the picture of oil in the driveway? Pictures from under the truck where its wet? (would have been easier to take when the truck was on the flatbed)

Also, I don't think that it is necessary or does it help your cause to state your previous vehicles being Tacoma's if you were not using the forum previously.

See, I've heard that there's a lot of carryover of the tried-and-true aspects of the 2nd gen into the 3rd. Sure, the new tech stuff is new to the taco, but has been implemented in other Toyota models for years. I can't explain away the issues reported here except that with such a large mfg. volume, there is sure to be a larger number of units experiencing issues. To me, it sounds like Toyota has done pretty good fixing the issues being seen (with the exception of shortage of parts for the fix -- similar to the Takata debacle).

Even everything considered, it still seems to be the best bang for my buck, truck. Manual trans on a 4x4 is a huge appeal to me which limits my options to 3 trucks (Nissan, RAM, Taco). Plus with the historical residual value of the Taco, I can upgrade to a Tundra if I choose to do so in the future without losing my ass.

I don't think the 3rd gen is a testing phase by any means... it just has some low-to-mid-level issues that seem to be pretty well-known at this point. Heck, we had a '13 Rav4 and in reading over on those foums (we only had it for like 25K miles), those were pretty bullet-proof from year 1 (of the current gen). We certainly didn't have any problems with them. The most people were reporting were the windshield cowl coming apart ha ha

My wife's '03 Highlander with 223k miles does not leak a drop, nor does my '09 Taco with 141k. The '98 Sl500 wiith 63k is another story...

Not surprised to see a few in the 3rd gen forum

You want to see pics of 1st and 2nd gens on trucks or broken in half? Those forums have them or I can provide a few if you're lazy.
